Regarding Colten Teubert, Oil shouldn't feel too bad....Dean Lombardi once gave up an extra #1 pick just to draft him.....

....On the other side of the coin, the Oil probably should have asked themselves why a GM who was that in love with a player was willing to trade him only a few years later.....

Anyway, hope Colten catches on somewhere, although not being able to crack a defense corps as spotty as Edmonton's doesn't look too good on one's resume...

Well, at least one answer was realistic:

CM: What, the drafting of Darnell Nurse wasn’t bold? Caught you sleeping, you moron. What did you think I was going to do, take the Russian kid? Where do you get your information from? Sometimes, me and Bucky sit in my office and laugh until we have tears running down our faces while reading your blogs. I mean, worst hockey blogger in history, and he happens to cover the Oilers. What are the freakin’ odds?

The real issue here is Kevin Lowe and yet another mistake of hiring an inexperienced GM.

How do you put pressure on yourself and the team.

By letting every GM in the league know via a blast of verbal diarrhea to the media, that you plan to make massive changes to the team.

The other GM's now know the pressure is on you to do that, so they can make unrealistic offers hoping you will accept or leave you hanging.

At least Mac T has hopefully realized his mistake and walked away.

Rich,

I look forward to reading your blogs; you're a creative dude. This one had me laughing enough to get my 8 yr old's attention.

For the record: she does not think you are funny in any way whatsoever, and-also, thinks that I've drank a little too much of that awful smelling stuff (it's Crown and it smells wonderful!)

Garth sucks; go Preds!

Assigning Grades to team based on Entry Draft Selections

Before you e-mail or PM me angered by my disrespect and misjudgment of your favorite team's choice, let me one make it clear concerning this specific draft: All team GMs and fans could say how they did great. Or how poorly they did. Because of the depth this draft class at the first four tiers (See Draft Tier explanations elsewhere on DraftSite…),this draft class, from pick 1 to pick 211, may bring major contributors and impact players to many NHL teams. Whether they admit it or not, NHL teams hope that the high character youngster they select not only graduate to the pro game, but develop into high impact stars, no matter which slotting there are chosen in. This draft provides MANY chances of unearth those type players.

My grades will be based NOT on the amount of picks, but on the possibility of the drafted prospects making contributions on NHL rosters FIVE years from now.
I will start by saying the upside of this class is by far one of the finest, but I and NHL teams cannot accurate predict NHL success for them at this juncture, just draw on my opinions of the player's canvass at this particular juncture in the journey.

Of, course I will bump up grades for team where they took my favorites, or prospects are clearly ahead of the curve towards NHL long term advancement and domination. Value in the players picked and where they are picked will also be key factors.
At first glance, I like a lot of team boards.

Edmonton Oilers
Grade B+
Darnell Nurse (7)

Scheduled to pick in slot seven, the Oilers took Darnell Nurse who may just be that big and tough and Fluid defender they lack. You have to say Nurse is just as tad off that top echelon and must also be be considered in that first tier or close. They traded one of their two second rounders to acquire more picks, because in a strong thick draft, you want be able to restock your entire organization with as many possible new options that you can develop as possible. Although he might no have shown a strong offensive game yet, second rounder Marc Oliver Roy is a intense big framed 160 lb. speedster whose effort is contagious over the entire 200 foot surface. Yakimov is even bigger strong on the puck centre with a heavy shot. Anton Slepyshev went undrafted last year even though he was thought of as a possible high pick, and a bargain at 88 IF he does decide to cross the pond. He is good in all phases, and PP, and PK. Houck blossomed into a hard working two way wing with a combination of physical edge and offensive prowess this past season and a steal in the 4th round. Platzer really gotten much ice time yet on a strong veteran club in London, and was drafted to start his development. Muir' s dad saw time as an NHL defenseman but he is just starting to develop as at all and lanky wing. Evan Campbell is a good size wing who needs time, Betker is huge defenseman that needs all more repetitions. Centre Chase is a strong skating DUB centre who has excellent stick skills, good feet and is a really tough competitor. The deciding factors in dropping the grade to B+ are two Russians who may not see North american style or care to endure after doing so.
