You really don't get it do you. It's something we have been trying to tell you. Most aren't a fan of putting 65% of our cap on five players. It's not hard to figure out.

The Pens and the Oilers have that in common.

Letang makes NO sense on the oilers.

I like Pajaarvi's upside. I'm sure if he was given an opportunity he'd do quite well in a teams top 6. I think in Edmonton, he's buried too far down the depth chart. The kid I saw at the world championships at the age of 18 had a lot going for him, a lot of scouts loved his game. I'm sure his name has been circled by a few gms hoping to exploit his lack of offensive production in a package trade, ie. him as a piece in said trade........Warning to my fellow Leaf fans, many of us had to defend Kadri to no end last year.......I could see MPS following a similar path.
- mykokes

it would appear that MPS won't get that chance in Edmonton... so wouldn't it be in Edmonton's best interest to move him while there remains value in the asset?

that's completely understandable from an Oilers perspective, its the 3rd and 4th line that need work.

if you are thinking first or second line center, then you should be reading the game sheets, the faceoff numbers will tell you that Sequin isn't playing center often - if at all.

and if you watched any of the finals, or the Rangers series, you would have noticed that Julien had Seguin increasingly on the third line.

so ya... you'd rather have a third line winger - then sure.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Honestly, I think Kessel is a pretty good forward, no denying that. But he is so one-dimensional. Where Tyler Seguin has just completed his third season, and is being eased in to the NHL slowly. I feel the upside on Seguin as a multi-dimensional player will pay off over the next few seasons, as he's given more & more opportunity. He'll be a good two-way forward. If I were to choose either, I'd take Seguin, no question.

I'm being serious man I don't think he's Paul Coffey but he was a great pickup from the ducks. He's always been the real deal, even at the NCAA level. And what he did in the AHL (albeit with a whole line of NHLers) was unreal. The kid will hit his peak the same time the rest of the oiler forwards do. The question will be, will Edmonton have a goalie (maybe Dubnyk) and a shutdown d-man by then.

Actually what Bob Mac said was he expects MacT to TRY to move the pick for immediate help. That said he didn't know what actually might be doable or available. Which is the part that everyone seems to forget. Many Teams are looking for top pairing Dmen. Teams that have them - legit guys - not just guys posing as top pairing guys, are not letting them go. They lock them up and keep them unless there is something wrong with them (ie. attitude etc). We ALL would like to see MacT do a deal for a top pairing D guy. Chances of it happening are extremely slim.

How is Kessel 1 dimentional? Do you actually watch Leafs games or just the highlights of him scoring all the time? The guy finishes top 10 in scoring by scoring and getting assists. Sure he doesnt hit or fight but hes usually the hardest backchecker. I would have agreed with you 2 years ago but he has proven to be a franchise player. He's better than Seguin right now no question.

Up until this year I used to think this too, but the way he played this year, I can no longer say this. He'll never be a selke winner, but when the games got important, Kessel's game got better. I used to want the Leafs to trade him for a #1 centre or something more complete, but my stance on that has changed drastically. Maybe my opinion will swing back if he goes back to his old ways, but to make it in carlyles system, you have to be more than a one trick pony. And man, did Kessel ever excel in that system in the 2nd half. Remember, he had no goals in the first 12 games.

Not that this isn't riveting and all, but to change the subject a bit, here's a quote on monahan that doesn't exactly give a gleaming report on him.

David Burstyn, the director of scouting for McKeen’s Hockey-

I see Sean Monahan as being a good NHL centre. If he works on his skating, he could possibly crack the top six, but if his skating doesn’t improve you’ve got yourself a good third line or depth player, which maybe at the 10 spot might not be exactly what you’re looking for. If he does improve his skating he has the possibility of being a top-six guy.

your commentary about Seguin may prove correct... but he'll be more exposed as the Bruins roster ages, and he'll be making 6M this coming season - that's a lot for an largely unproven guy, who's had great opportunities - largely very sheltered. be very glad that the Oilers took Hall - just my opinon.

and on the Kessel one-dimensional thing - well he convinced me this past season and particularly in the playoffs he isn't one-dimensional at all.

IDK man.. Shultz is good, and has proven he can hang with the NHL guys.. But i think the hype has died down considerably. Would i like to see him in blue and white? Absolutley! But not nearly as much as id like to see Letang.

People thought Skinner was better than Hall. To me, Hall was always the poop. I still think he's got a rocket richard in his future.
