sooo perfect gameplan:
rangers trade marc staal + fast + 2014 1st + 2013 3rd for the 5th overall pick in the draft and draft nichuskin.
next offseason, buyout richards and sign letang.
roster:
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Nichuskin - Brassard - Callahan
Clowe - Lindberg - Miller
Dorsett - Hendricks - Boyle
McDonagh - Letang
Girardi - Moore
MDZ - McIlrath
Hankie - rangerdanger94
Personally I think that's way too much for the 5th overall pick.

Not for nothing but if what Larry Brooks says is true that Glen Sather approached Mark Messier about the head coaching position I don't blame him at all for saying see you later. If it was me I would have said why did you ask me, have me run it by my family etc if me not having experience was going to be a problem. I would have said frank you Glen, how do you even still have a job as you choose your 6th coach in 13 yrs doosh bag. - pcjr307
According to the report though Mark didn't jump up and say yes right away. He took his time and told Sather to make the right choice for the organization. Maybe if Messier was upfront right away and said he wanted it, he would have gotten the job. |

Crazy, watch him get hurt next year or something and miss out on the money in the end.
Is it worth it to hold out for potentially an extra 750k per year or around 8 million dollars total? Especially when you already have 56 million sitting on the table. He must want out of Pit or something. - TPC
That's really crazy, can't believe he would turn that down |

typically, i agree. but with the 5th overall pick in this draft, you are guaranteed to draft an elite, franchise player in either barkov or nichuskin (or drouin...probably not tho).
i mainly overpaid in that post so trolls wouldn't flame me for being a bias homer. |

He didn't, he just took his time to say he wanted it. Might have been his downfall in losing the job if the report is true. |

Letang turning down 6.75 mill per tells me he doesn't give two poops about winning he just want's money. Let him go else where. Plus Nichuskin said he will only play in the NHL or he's going back to Russia. no to both of them.

I dont...
The only major part of that trade were moving is Staal.
Fast is a 3rd liner at best (and will probably be a good one).
The 1st round pick we will give up next year will probably be between 25 and 30.
And the 3rd rounder will be a throw in.
For someone like Nichushkin, who is an absolute beast... a player who could potentially change this franchise around and be that missing piece. I think its well worth it.
Especially since were running the risk of losing Marc for nothing when he becomes a UFA. Its not like the Jordan Staal situation because he was an RFA. |

maybe he just wants to get out of Pitt for one reason or another. or maybe he does want to contend and realizes that the money they have tied into like 3 or 4 players makes it almost impossible. i think letang would be sick and that mcd - letang would easily be the best top line in the league.
as for nichuskin...i think he'll play in the nhl next season. kid is gonna be a monster. he's exactly what we need to. a huge power forward with hands like ovechkin that can snipe and score. |

Hearing that Letang camp informed Penguins earlier tonight that they were turning down an 8-year contract offer worth around $56 million... - rangerdanger94

just read someone on the penguins forum post:
TIOPS reporting that Letang wants 8mil with a full NTC. The Pens offer did not include a NTC. The NTC is a deal killer for the Pens. |

Nichushkin has a bit more finesse than Ovi, Ovi is just brute force and power. Id say Nichushkin is kind of a mix of Nash and Malkin. |

Pens need to trade him before the start of the season. You cant have an ungrateful POS like that in your locker room. You know his teammates will always look at him funny because of this crap hes pulling. You cant trust his commitment to the team anymore.
Send his ass to Calgary where he will never see another playoff game for the rest of his career. |

Well Letang is a UFA after next season so he would only have to be in Calgary for 1 year if that happened. Plus if Pit trades him, it will be for the best possible package. Not out of spite to Letang. |

It's comforting to know that Brad Richards is as much in the dark about what is going on as we are.
I don't think you do this to a guy if there is a chance you could still be relying on him to be a huge piece of your team next year.
He deserves better than this. They need to decide today what the heck they are doing either way.
The answer to me is simple. Buy him out. But if they aren't, we need this guy to be the best he can be next season, and this certainly doesn't help his overall mindset.

I agree with you, but like OldSchool said, maybe Sather is trying to get a trade done. I can't imagine another team actually taking on his salary, but who knows? Maybe Calgary?
