I stand by my earlier comment about waivers. If I owned the canucks and gillis asked for 64 million dollar check I d be telling him try waivers first you moron. Yes he might get bought out but you try option first. The initial problem was gillis asking to much when he wanted Bozak and Kadri well if he wants nothing you evaluate how long will loungo play before retiring and its not as bad of a contract. If he peforms like the last too years he's a great goalie for a franchise with money provided no assets go the other way. Besides over time the cap hit is the problem not the money its backdiving a lot of teams aren't near the ceiling. I don't see lounga being bought out for the same reason I don't see lecavilier owners other than the brain trust in philly don't cut checks like that. That comment comes from Doug Maclean I think he knows better then people on this site - woolley
If he hits waivers, every GM in the league knows that no one was making a trade offer. It is a waste of time because no one will take on that contract when they could get a shot at him for significantly less in a few days.
There is a problem if he retires early and that is the cap recapture issues - which could affect both teams depending on how early he retires. This is why waivers doesn't make sense - along with the fact that you can't bury players any longer. If they can't find a trade and the don't buy him out, the only other option is trading Schneider. |

In your honest opinion, do you think Luongo wants to play for the Canucks anymore (or specifically Gillis?). I'm not sure exactly what he has said |

Gillis has nowhere to go with LOU. Buyout and then Philly will jump on him if they can't deal for Miller. |

I know this is far-fetched and believing Luongo would do it, but can they buy him out, re-sign him to a 3 yr deal worth 4 mil per and then trade him? This way they get some value without losing him for nothing from the buy-out. Luongo is obviously doing us a huge favour... |

A player can't re-sign for a team that bought them out for 12 months |

It's gonna be hard to forgive Gillis for this mess. Should just trade Schneider. |

A great way to forgive him is to fire him... - Flyfreaky Been wanting that for a while now. Seriously. They need to remember why they signed him to that contract in the first place, and stick with it. Let Lu mentor a new young goalie (Ericksson or Lack), or even draft Zach Fucale.

Another Canuck fan thought they should trade Schneider and keep Lou for one more year and then buy him out, going forward with whatever young goalie and a cheap vet to mentor him... |

I love how all the talk is about Gagner being resigned in Edmonton... yet his probability of staying in Edmonton drops 10% on 'the Rumour Chart"
How does it work? Dart board with all the teams on it in your basement, ek?

They brought Torts in to shake things up to try to win now. That means keeping Schnieder |

Looks like they convinced him to take one for the team for one year. Then get his long term payday next year when there is more cap room. Good for them. Just hope he doesn't get a career ending injury or something stupid like that. - Iggysbff
Has nothing to do with future salary caps. If you look at StL and the way they do things they don't just hand out long term contracts. Oshie, Berglund, Stewart all received short term bridge type deals in the past b/c none of them warranted or took the steps forward to get a long term commitment. They make the guys earn them and while yes Berglund improved this past year he didn't leap into the elite realm. Look at their history, these short term "bridge" type contracts are what they do at least until the player gets to the point they deserve a long term deal ala Pietrangelo this offseason. |

Well, Vancouver can now, as part of a trade, retain some annual salary. But I think that puts Vancouver is a bad spot. I may be mistaken (I have not read the new CBA) but I think that would leave them on the hook for other penalties down the road.
I still think there is a situation out there... in Jersey or Tampa where there would be some serious consideration. Although I understand Jersey is quite poor at the moment so they may be out. But if Philly thinks that they may lose any opportunity to get him after a buyout (after all... they get 11th option of saying yes or no) they may do the unthinkable and trade for him. I mean, the Flyers organization has made some crazy moves in the past 3 or 4 years bringin big names and trading them or, as of today, buying them out.
But if the Canucks cannot complete a trade, I am certain he would get picked up on waivers. Failing that, a buy out is a totally acceptable option. - Beatle_john
Ben Bishop and Anders Lindback. Familiarize yourself with those names and understand that the BOLTS ARE NOT TRADING FOR LU AND THAT RIDICULOUSLY LONG CONTRACT |

Didn't Holmgen say earlier he was NOT going to buy our Bryz? I would say he not only lies, he lies more often and more frequently than most other GM's
as far as the Nucks buying out Lu.... it won't happen
Gillis will either get some value back... Dipetro and Nino Niederreiter for example and buy out RD... or he will move Cory
If holmgren really thinks he is getting Lu for nothing he's dreaming |

don't worry, it'll pass. Us Isles fans were dealing with a daily Luongo blog from Ian Esplen for a week or two about it.
All will be rewarded with the Gillis buyout Luongo press conference when he's asked the question "why buy him out when the contract wasn't an issue?"
I can't wait |

yours sure looked stellar in the playoffs this year. Ours was even worse and we lasted longer against a better team.
