You need a bigger sample size than seven games.
- Oneonta Penguin

Agreed. Though to be far, it was 7 games with our Minor League team's Defense in front of him.

I think it would be a lot to put a full season on him as he is still largely a reclaimation project. But I'd rather go with the idea of grooming him, signing a stopgap goalie and waiting for Stolarz to to develop more and maybe going after another goalie in the meantime than overpaying in assets or contract for Luongo, Miller or someone else like that.

I have only seen him play a couple of times. He was over here for the Blues prospect development camp a couple of times, and he really looked good. Then he would go back over to Europe, and never seemed to do anything worth noting. Maybe he will turn out to be decent. I wouldn't bank on it though.

Definately not the best goalie not in the NHL, or whatever your GM said when you guys picked him up. That was funny.

- carcus

Well I think he is the second best....next to Ramo

Anyways, ya i'm not banking on it. But he has a shot to be decent IMO.

I can see something like Luongo and the rights to Raymond for Couturier and Simmonds. A win/win for both clubs. Looking forward to seeing some trades.

Flyers finally get that franchise goalie they've been so desperate for while also getting a top 6 winger in Raymond.
Canucks get some good depth in Simmonds and Couturier. This is the type of trade I can see happening.

Sooooo....Raymond is a top 6 forward but Simmonds and Couturier are depth?

Not to mention that albatross of a contract with Lou.

Don't get me wrong...I am one of the one that actually thinks Lou is good, but this trade is ridiculous. Wayyyyy to much of an overpayment, and besides, isn't Raymond entering FA?

His breakout season already happened, it was his rookie year. I can't imagine a team that has high expectations such as the Flyers would be willing to risk their whole season on Mason returning to his rookie year form.
- Jimmys7

A change in team is exactly what the doctor prescribed for Mason. No disrespect to your team but the blue jackets are not the easiest team to play behind. After being traded to the flyers he has found new confidence. If the flyers focus on putting a solid defense in front of him and a reliable back-up goalie then we will be in good shape.

Nobody is taking Luongo's contract via waivers.

It is a terrible contract. That is the issue with him. So why would another team just pick him up on waivers and assume that monster?

It is a dumb idea, and if that is what Vancouver is banking on, they are dumber than I thought they were.

- carcus

You are just pissing in the wind now.

Tell me this.... prior to a buy out... what does Vancouver have to lose by putting him on waivers.

Lastly ---- So many people on this board think (1) Gillis was so stupid creating this contract......... uhhhh. no........... it was ownership who pushed for it and then accepted it. (2) The contract was made under the previous CBA which, at the time, was fine. and (3) and maybe this is most important,.... the Canucks are one of a few teams with pockets so deep they could buy Phoenix only to use them as a farm team. So laugh it up if you think a buyout will hurt the Canucks. Quite the opposite actually.

I had a soft spot for Raymond after he broke his back in the finals... but now I do not want him selling 50/50 tickets.

That's like me trading you 4 five dollars bills for 1 fifty.

That trade will never work, happen or even get serious or laughable consideration.

Ek said Luongo to Philly. I'm throwing out what to most people is a pretty fair trade proposal. Sorry, I thought that's how it worked.
So, how many prospects will Hemsky fetch?

a buyout will only hurt the owners pocketbook marginally.

I read his post though and he didn't say it 'buying out' was dumb. it's one of the only remaining options you have left. sounded to me like he said expecting someone to pick him on waivers is a longshot. cause it is.

Lou is obviously set for life. Why would be sign a 4 million dollar contract to be in Philly when he could sign a 1 million dollar contract in Florida?

You may be right. I guess I was responding to those who find some weird joy in the buyout when it really is nothing to the Canucks.

But I do think more than 1 team would be interested in him prior to a buyout. even if it is a trade was between team (a) who offers 2 7th round picks versus team (B) who offers 1 5th

No I am not. Vancouver has nothing to lose by putting him on waivers, besides time. Nobody is picking up his contract. It is WAY too long, and under the new CBA, it is too big of a risk to take.

Maybe some people thought these long contracts were a good idea under the old CBA, but I was never one of them. Especially ones that took the player into their 40's. That was just dumb. Under the old CBA, you could get away with it. But everyone knew the old CBA was ending, and there was no guarantees that they would be able to continue to get away with the same crap in the future CBA. So they were playing with fire, the uncertainty of the future, especially with the players being in their 40's at the end of the deals.

Congrats on your deep pockets. Instead of buying the Coyotes, you will need to pay for Luongo to play somewhere else.

u might be right about this.

but you still never know. personally, I have no idea what its like to be a multi millionaire, nor do I know what it's like to be a professional athlete.

but maybe if he think philly has a better shot at winning a cup which might be the most important thing to him....
not only that, but 3 million is 3 million. that's a lot of money to turn up your nose at.

there's billionaires out there that still use child labour etc to save what must be chump change to them...just sayin
