If we get Malone for Malkins left wing I'd be extremely happy. A big line that could cycle. Also, anyone else feel that the loss of Talbot was pretty big? Looking back, I'd much rather have him at his contract then Kennedy at his. Talbot was another team leader, puck retriever and cycles well.

Hindsight is 20/20... Talbot got a little too much money and way too many years. We remember the good about him, but his last season here, he was so bad, and really ineffective.

Talbot was a casualty just like Malone... Talbot could've been had on the Pens for the 1.5 per area. Shero has struck out on his risks just like any GM.

You dont sign depth players to long deals. Their production fluctuates so much that its best if they work off 2 year deals. Cooke and Dupuis would be the only type exception because you know what you're getting. And even then its 3 years usually at maximum.

If he wants to stay, even for that price ($3M) and work his ass off, I'm all for it. He's a god player and will be better next season.

Careful! saying Iggy is a god player could get you lynched round these parts

Didn't he play in Philly? Alex Grant was stuck in our system for years....he would never get a chance with us. now we have a capable call up in Zolnierczyk for the 4th line. Good.
- Orpik44

agreed... although I'm not to sure about cast offs from philly... I heard he was a fan favorite out there! uh-oh...

I just can't see him, after making 7 mil his entire career, taking anything less than 3.5 mil. My thought is, if Iginla signs with the Pens, Dupuis is gone. Which would you rather have??

if, and I think your right unless iggy takes a major cut, it's between them, then hands down its dupius.

They still have to resign Justin Faulk who is a RFA. I would take either Clutterbuck or Spurgeon here. Yes, great cap hit for Backstrom. He took a hometown discount to make it work - otherwise, they would have been in trouble.

Another option in net for Philly gone. I see them keeping Bryz more and more.

- Oneonta Penguin

I still think Bryz gets the buyout, if only because of the cap recapture rule. A poison pill for Snider to swallow, talk about karma.

I like Clarkson, but I'm just not confident enough that he can repeat his 30 goal season to give him the contract it would take to sign him.
- rival22

I just think if he can score 30 playing with zajac and henrique, than he might look mighty good next to the dynamic duo

Besides the possible character issues, the Zolnierczyk move makes sense. We move a guy who has zero chance of ever getting to the NHL here, for a guy who can play in WBS and be used as an injury callup.
- rival22

That's the skinny of it, methinks. Not a bad little move at all.

Talbot's last season in Pittsburgh was very unproductive. Shero had no choice.
- Ryan_Wilson

I agree. However, looking at his career in entirety, you could have speculated that he would be able to turn it around quickly. And the way the market is trending, that deal seems spot on.

I was very happy with that signing from day 1. Every team needs guys like Talbot.

I'd expect closer to the 10 goals per year than the close to 20 he had his first year there. It's not a contract the Pens can afford to sign a 3/4th line player.

I think he was offered $1M, 2 years in Pittburgh. Shero wouldn't go higher than that on him. He got a huge paycheck in Philly. Now I hope he rot in hell (in Philly)

Get that kind of money? Absolutely. But probably would be with another team. I'm sure he got some other offers.

I too like Clarkson. He has come a long way from being nothing more than a goon. That said, is he a one hit wonder? Sort of like the year Brady Anderson his over 50 homers and then never to be heard from again ... not saying Clarkson is on the juice either.

I don't know much about baseball, at all, but looking at the list of the biggest HR hitters in history I saw the Chicago White Sox have two of the best right now.

Is there a better HR duo than Adam Dunn (426 HR) and Paul Konerko (429 HR) in the league playing right now, considering their age (33 and 37 respectively)?

Albert Pujols 33 years old, 488 HR (He is going to break a lot of records, still).
Alex Rodriguez 37 yo, 647 HR is just amazing.

If he does, I'm sure we'll all be happy for him....as long as he doesn't go to our former biggest rival

We got Zolnierczyk?????

Great, we need this puke because Cooke is going to be a gonner?

Not thrilled with his history or this deal. But I've been wrong before.

If you don't like Harry the Z, think of it this way: you traded nothing for nothing.

Yep pretty much, although Ducks made Lovejoy into a top 4 dman, perhaps Alex Grant could get in the top 6.

Zolniercyk is a fast 4th liner. A bit different than who we currently have. Its a fine pick up.
