Bingo. Injuries we can manage. Him be slow on the ice when he's actually playing is my biggest concern even if he came with a steep discount. He's going to take up a roster spot no matter what he's paid.

I am very fond of Malone, but I'd rather get Iginla again if we're headed in that direction.

Personally, we need to find a few, young, big, fast, power-forwards. Someone who can dump it in Chara's corner and go get'im.

ummmm....that combination doesn't come around very often.

that would have to be sarcasm... the risk is using up cap space on a player who has an injury history. even if he signed for a couple mil... hell... even if he signed for less, that still would be a risk. Unless it was a long term injury.. if he kept going out for 5-10 game stretches at a time, it hamstrings shero for that cap space. that being said... I think he should be gotten if the gittens good

And yet, you are fine wasting money on an older Iginla with declining skills.

To me, bringing back Iginla for a low price ($1.5-2M) is a no brainer. I'm sure he'll be lot better with a full training camp and getting acquainted to the guys...and Bylsma using him properly.

Iginla, Malone, Cooke, Dupuis....bring 'em.

It's a shame we can't afford Clarkson... Dupuis would have to sign elsewhere for us to have a shot and I'd rather have Pascal signed
- ChrisMS

The problem with Clarkson is that he'll get $5M+....I wouldn't want to pay him that much. For $4M, we could talk.

I wont disagree... but there still is a risk. I'd be all about going for Malone up to 2 mil a year... but to say its without a risk isn't accurate. ask tampa... now 2 mil is far less risky than 4.5, but it still carries a little question mark

That's just not happening. He will get at least 3 million, if not more.

I'd be all about it if he was that cheap... problem is I just don't see him coming back that cheap... I'd go even a little higher at 3 a year, but doubt iggy signs for that and he isn't worth any more to us, due to our constrained cap situation

If he wants to stay, even for that price ($3M) and work his ass off, I'm all for it. He's a god player and will be better next season.

id love to see malone for under 2 a year. i dont see that happening though, as injuries aside i still think he can get 3 a year from someone. however, if he would accept less from the pens, than by all means. i get it there is risk, but for that small of a price the risk is worth the potential reward.

i think id rather have him than iggy, even at the same price, although for the record i still think iginla can get someone to float him 4 a year. i have a hard time seeing why he would want less than 2 a year to come back

there really isnt a lot out there that intrigues me that would be a realistic option, either monetarily or assets needed to acquire it

If Whitney can get 4.5 at age 40, Iginla can get that or more at 35-36.

We are all assuming he'd take a discount to play in Pittsburgh. No offence, but you're just being against him in the Penguins....and Dallas is a totally different situation..TOTALLY.

Didn't he play in Philly? Alex Grant was stuck in our system for years....he would never get a chance with us. now we have a capable call up in Zolnierczyk for the 4th line. Good.

I'm not against him being a Penguin, I'm just looking at past contracts for guys towards the end of their careers who can still play. Iginla has shown he still can still play, and the way teams overpay in free agency shows that if he wants to, he can probably get 4.5 to 5 million in the open market.

He's an alright skater, not too much else to him though. Decent plug on an energy line, though he got a bit reckless prior to trading him to Anaheim. Not a bad depth pick up, especially considering he's making close to league minimum.

He got huge money his whole carreer. he already said he wants to go for a cup. I can't imagine a contender paying him $4.5M. I'm pretty sure we have a shot bringing him back.....but Bylsma would have to be wiser this time otherwise don't bother bringing him.

Can he skate fast, check and score occasionally?

At least we got a guy we can actually use in the future.
