Stalberg, Bickell, Hendricks, Gordon, Penner, Cleary, Lapierre, Dvorak...all UFAs and good options if could be signed for cheap. - Orpik44
The first two names won't come that cheap. Cleary is a lifer in Detroit. |

Pens plan to qualify Jeffrey and Kennedy - Deadstar
And this is why we won't sniff the Cup. Status quo gets us nothing. If this happens, I'm questioning our GM all the sudden.

I've been questioning him ever since he gave Bylsma another two years. Shero defended him like a friend. Now Kennedy gets a qualifying offer for 2mil. At this rate, I'm fully expecting Ray to sign Letang for 7.5 with a full NMC.

I dont think tendering Kennedy is reason to question a GMs capabilities. But it is not what I expected. |

Kennedy is the least of my reasons for questioning Shero.

Then go be a Flyers fan if you want a core player traded every time a team doesnt win the cup. See how well that works.
Shero does an excellent job of balancing the future while trying to win now. You wont see trade deadline acquisitions like that every year. Every GM makes those Iginla, Morrow, and Murray deals. |

Yeah. Kennedy is a good player to have on the roster but not for $2M |

Trading your core players like that is a step backwards (even though I think Philly did quite well with their return). It's well known that one of our main issues against Boston was a net front presence, lack of getting to the dirty areas. We need guys that will do that. Malones and Bickells on this team now. |

Pens should trade Ducks for 1 of their 3 goalies. Preferably Gibson. Pipe dream, I know but one can wish. |

I agree but I'd say it's easier to get Hillier than Gibson at this point...but if we trade Letang to them, B.Ryan has to come back in their package (Etem/Gibson are untouchables). |

Lets also throw this out there. Its highly unlikely we trade Letang for anyone with a cap hit this year higher than his 3.5 million. Especially if that player is a forward. We're going to be up against the cap as it is for this year. |

No, trading a core player isn't like taking a step backwards. It depends on what you get in return. This franchise has failed since winning the Cup in the play-offs. It's not that hard to figure out. We need some cap relief in the future. Letang is going to cost north of 7 million and its assinine to give him that much. I don't prescribe to throwing 60% of you cap space on five players.
How do you expect to fulfill our weakest problem? It's not going to be cheap. We need some pieces; some younger talent to fortify our farm system which is nothing but D prospects. We have no in house candidates at forward and it remains to be seen if we have one in goal.
Trading Letang gives us some $$$ to play with after this year and we can use an influx of pieces. He is the obvious trade chip Shero should really try to use. |

Stop ... its not every time. This franchise has failed so many times in the first and second rounds since winning the Cup its not funny. There are missing pieces we need to acquire - younger talent that is more cost effective than an offensive minded D man that is questionable on D and has missed alot of games the last two years. The Boston series should remain in your head for a while. We aren't that close to winning a Cup. Status quo is a joke, especially when we don't have much cap space and have holes in the lineup.

I was talking about Philly trading Richards/Carter. It's like us trading Crosby/Malkin to get some pieces. As for Letang I'm in favour of trading him for the right deal if we can't sign him for less than $6-6.5M (that's the max i'd feel comfortable with). We probably won't be able to.. Get the best package available and feel happy about your choice if that's the case. |

Would you be fine if we brought Bickell AND Malone alongside Cooke and Dupuis? |

I think Shero has the posibility of trade Nisk and buying out Glass, which will save them 3.4 million. Zolnierczyk will replace Glass, saving about half a mil. Bring up Dumoulin to replace Nisk, saving 1.4 mil. That pretty much frees up 2 million right there. |

You won't stand a chance of that happening if you don't trade Letang, who you want to keep.

6.5 might be possible, with all the rumblings that Letang wants to stay with the Pens. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 4 year, 26 million dollar deal. That gives Letang a chance to sign another big contract at 30. |

That doesn't change much really. Buying out Glass at 1.1? |
