I'd trade for James Neal in a heartbeat. Sick shot. Finisher. Would be money on a line with JT.
- Jethro09

do you notice a difference in the penquins since neal arrived? they are mental midgets which is what neal brings. sure he is an outstanding talent, but he like his linemate malkin are rather easy to get off their game and only know one end of the ice.

i love neals game from the blue line in, but he has major drawbacks.

He knows how to flop like he's been shot to draw a penalty...we could use a guy like that. Normally we're the one's going to the box when someone does that!

But that game from the blue line in is ridiculous. I'll take his flaws along with his 40+ goals per season.

Dee Karl: Better Than Nothing
Knowing Mark Streit was headed elsehwere, Garth Snow did what he could.

- Dee Karl

Garth needs to stop making deals within our conference. Especially with teams that OWN us, historically. Taking salary/cap hits off the hands of NJ Devils(rolston) and Bruins(Thomas) didn't really help the Isles in any way(especially Rolston-complete bust AND $5Million in salary - and PA salary was too much?) other than get to the floor. He'd be better as Head Scout and Wang should find an established GM who knows the do's & don't's of the job better. His inexperience shows through at nearly every turn. I don't care if he's the nicest guy in the world and make cookies for the neighborhood kids and rescues puppies from the shelter, this is a results driven world. He's had 6 years and we're STILL 2-3 away from being serious contenders. We could get there sooner with the right GM. JT has a shelf-life and it's year 5 of his career. Pittsburgh was better 2 years after crosby was drafted. Was in the Stanley Cup 4 years into his career. We're NO WHERE CLOSE to getting to finals because Garth can only develop talent and is incapable of trading for the difference makers this team needs. HE SWEARS money isn't the issue, so WTF is he waiting for?

Malkin signed for 8 years $76 million. This means the Pens have signed two players to 28.3% of their salary. Those two players have missed 32.7% of games over the last four seasons

PA has played in 110% of games over the last four seasons.

First they took rolston for 1 year at 5 million but dumped Trent hunter's 2 years at 2 million, so good move as they had nothing to lose. If you check their previous picks, they are finally stacked with good young talent which we haven't had in a while. Players like Crosby come around once every 10 years or so, so unfair comparison. we're finally close after a good season and playoff so let's be optimistic

Streit can make dynamite first passes out of the zone. His vision and passing are his greatest assets, and both are still top-notch as far as I'm concerned. Combined with a good shot and a deceptive slap-pass he uses from the point, he definitely still has his uses, and the Isles will have to find ways to replace that.

The rest of his game, though...at least over the past two seasons...it certainly wasn't what it was when the Isles first signed him. This past season the most frustrating thing he kept doing was carrying the puck deep into the offensive zone, then turning around and making a very low-percentage pass behind him. More often than not, it just led to a turnover with Streit trapped deep in the offensive zone. His skating isn't what it once was, which really hurts his defense because ever since his shoulder injury he just won't take the body at all...so if someone goes wide on him, he won't slow him up physically, but can't keep up anymore to use his stick effectively.

Maybe that's not an issue next season. Maybe he really kicks it all into a better gear like he did when he first came to LI from Montreal when Habs fans were warning us about all of his shortcomings. Who knows. Personally, I'm glad the Isles didn't place a four-year bet on that though.

DUMB penalties. DUMB, lazy penalties. If they have him and Schenn on the ice at the same time, they may lead the league in 5 on 3s against.

I'd pay $500 to attend a game where Douglas Murray and Luke Schenn were a defensive pairing. It's a lot to watch two guys with the general mobility of cinder blocks, but it would be hilarious.

no one said he was unliked or horrible

He is in the downswing of his career, we have seen it over the last 2 years... he is no longer a top 4 D-men but he wants to be signed like a top 2. This is our problem with him, if we could sign him for 2 years 2.5-3 mill a season tops, im sure we would have for his PP ability, leadership and he was VERY liked in the locker room. But moving forward, we have the O that he brings and we NEED guys on our back end that can play D. so for 5-6 mill a season over a multi-year deal.... no thank you.. have a good day sir, nice knowing you, appreciate what you brought, good luck in your next endeavor.
So if you are expecting him to just come in and help your PP he will do that, If you are expecting him to be a leader and mentor.. you got a great guy... but if you are expecting a d-men that can play D..... not gonna happen.

He never was a top 4 d-man. He only was on this team because there wasn't anybody else. Two totally different things.

I think when he first came here he may have been a decent #3 or #4. He's definitely not now. I do agree with you that he was probably overvalued based on being the shiniest penny in the bucket. I'd define it as:

Comeauism (co-mo-is-um): adv The act of being overvalued due to a lack of sufficient overall team talent.
