Yes thank you. Streit makes no sense. Replace any D-men from last year who aren't returning from within our system. |

Good blog, Todd. To be honest I don't think signing any defensman really makes sense for us. |

Unless it's some superstar, which isn't happening, so yes. We need to get our young D a chance to play, more old, overpaid D-men is EXACTLY what this team doesn't need. |

Should we bring back Zubrus, Clarkson, and Elias, I think the only signing we should make would be a decent scoring winger. That said, I don't know if Lou does it. It sounds like we are taking a scoring forward in the draft, so it wouldn't surprise me if Lou wants to give our pick, Mattau, and even Tedenby a chance to grab a roster spot in training camp first. I think it will be another status quo offseason. |

Lou was always able to maintain the status quo because his team always made the playoffs. After missing for the second time in three years I think he's gotta do something about it. |

I hope we can swap Zubrus for Stalberg. I really like him, but I never get my hopes up when it comes to Devils and free agency. |

I agree with this reasoning, my gut is just telling me its going to be status quo. If one of Zubrus, Clarkson, or Elias aren't resigned then I definitely think lou will make a move. |

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Zubrus. He's one of the most effective players in DeBoer's system because he usually simplifies his game, has good size, and is great on the forecheck. Everyone always mentions the injuries to Marty and Kovy, but I think Zubrus was a big one too. Similar to the 4th line, he helps the team find their game and get into a rhythm. I would still like to sign Stalberg for the right price, as we could definitely use some speed. |

With Gonchar getting 10 million for 2 yrs, Zids, Streit, etc are going to get a lot of $.
I would resign Harrold for $700,000 max, look to dump one of Tallinder,Sal, or Volchie.
Go with
Greene Lars
Sal Fayne
Gelinas Volchie

sal wont be a buy out victim, he is captain so they wouldnt do that, i think tallinder maybe the only buy out, i cant see us buying out volchenkov
greene-larsson
fayne-salvador
urbom/gelinas-volchenkov
harrold
+i think if merrill impresses at training camp he may play some games up here
dont want to sign any UFA dmen, and we cant go after any RFA dmen even if we wanted to
i do however think lou will make some type of move on draft day for a winger |

Absolutely. Zubrus is an important piece. I think we should go after one of Horton > Iginla > Ryder > Stalberg. Even if we resign our UFAs I'd still like to bring in one of those guys. Yes we have kids with potential, but we need some players too.. Not just crossing our fingers on Matteau, Boucher, or the 9th overall. We need some talent, especially with no Clarkson and Elias and Zubrus eventually slowing down. I know we have Zajac, Henrique, Kovy, but it wouldn't hurt to add a top 6, or at least a very solid 3rd liner. Look at the depth in the final 4 teams! We're not even close to that. |

it seems every highly touted swedish defenceman is the next lidstrom. |

Its not so much the comparison, but some people are calling him a bust because he's not an all star yet. Some fans are just not patient and don't realize defensman don't develop overnight like forwards can. I think when they heard about his puck moving abilities they were expecting a much more offensive minded dman as well, but its not really his game to be like an Erik Karlsson who joins the rush a lot. I think he'll settle in as a 40 point dman in his prime, good in all 3 zones. |

development is not linear in all cases or the same for all players.
prv's taken a beating from edm and opposing fans alike cause he hasn't developed or blossomed at the rate of the other kids (eberle, hall etc)
he's been called a bust, trade him for nothing etc cause he's not the same type of player as those guys and struggled to figure out the NA game.
but u could finally see some flashes last year finding his niche. but still needs time to develop. glad he wasn't shipped off. his skill set looks like it may be extremely invaluable to us if we remain patient |
