What exactly does NJ have to offer?
They have some good prospects on defense, but their forward depth is laughable.
Never gets done. |

I think the Isles may go after Ryan this year. Not trolling but imo Devils should start rebuilding pick up some nice prospects and move on. No sense to trade the future for one player. - mighty13duck
They have Strome and Reinhart yet to come. Isles will be fine. Better off than NJ in my honest opinion.
NJ is still rolling two 40 yr old next year in next, bank on it.
Not sure why NYI would bother tinkering too much. They need a goalie, like NJ. |

YES YES YES THEY MUST! MUST. MUST. missing piece. - MartysBetter88
or not.
thinking about the cost. reading your blog, Todd.. you're right- steep cost for a young stud in his prime.
could we offer the rights to Clarkson? + 2nd + Urbom + Josefson.. Matteau? It's not enough. I don't want to lose Gelinas, Merrill, Boucher. Matteau, Tedenby, Urbom.. fine.
my thoughts are, what if Boucher becomes a Mogilny? What if Matteau becomes a Lucic? both probably won't happen, but in the future.. the dynamic of this team may be in more of a need for a Lucic than a Mogilny- if we have both Kovalchuk and Ryan, maybe Lokti and Henrique too, scoring goals.
OR we could just get Stalberg or Horton and improve scoring that way. but it's no guarantee we could get one of them.
Shinkaruk is a beast. If we get him at #9 i'd be elated. But then again, Ryan is a proven goal scorer at the NHL level. .. in the 30s every season. .. tho only 2 goals in 7 playoff games this year
#9 + Urbom straight for Ryan? add Tedenby if he has any value? add Matteau or Josefson? tough decision.
Elias-Zajac-Ryan would be solid. Definitely gives us a legit #1b scoring line to support Kovalchuk. |

He's going to Van for Edler... - pmg2008
this is probably the most fair, even, and sensible trade possible in the whole league. They'd be stupid not to do this. Maybe throw in a 4th rounder with Edler.. |

haha sorry man I am brutal but ill try for yea. I have trouble re reading some of my posts - blizzzard
No biggie. It's just a bit hard where I have to double-back and reread it. Not trying to be a d-bag, just a suggestion.
But I agree, to an extent. The problem is, 2 of your top players are at the tail end, Elias and Brodeur are gone in 2 years probably. Couple those with the loss of Parise, and you guys could be hard up with the new divisional format. If possible, I'd take a run at Bernier/Schneider and try to pry a top-line forward (not necessarily Ryan) away from a W.C. team.
You can do a quick re-tool, but if you don't retool with enough youth, you can become Calgary very quickly. |

Was reported/speculated in a Van newspaper yesterday. Not a bad idea actually; even cap hit??
I'd prefer Edler out east, maybe NYI for ???

Priority 1: Get PP offensive defenseman.
Priority 2: then worry about scoring woes.
If priority 1 isn't fulfilled, you can have all the 30 goal scorers on your team you want, they aren't getting more than 15 with the Faynes, Tallinders, Salvadors, and Volchenkovs. |

Would you take any of Edler, Hamhuis or Ballard?
I'd like Clarkson.

Don't even mention Ballard, as any team will be able to sign him in a month and a half.
And if you're offering Edler for Clarkson straight up, I've got some really great land to sell you in Asbury Park. |

Yeah, no one likes Ballard. It's a shame; he's not actually all that bad. He's a 5/6 guy who can slot into a 3/4 role. Can play forward. But too expensive at $4M.
No, not Edler straight for Clarkson. Edler is inconsistent but he might steal a nice package in return. He has the potential to be a beast but lacks the meanness. Clarkson is great character guy; captain material?? |

Agreed on Ballard. If he was making $3M, might be easier to live with. It really is a shame, but he'll end up just fine.
I can't comment on Clarkson as a captain. From what I've seen, he's a bit hot-headed for a captain, but definitely could get an A...again, just from what I've seen. |

Ducks would surely want a number 2 center in the deal.
Henrique + 9th overall seems fair |

John Michael Liles will be available for next to nothing. With Phaneuf and the emergence of Franson and Gardiner, JML will be on his way out |

The only way Perry leaves Anaheim is for a #1/2 defenseman. Ducks are strong in goal and up front and don't need any more forward prospects or 3rd line centers. |

Perry has a NTC that was effective on the day he signed his extension, he ain't going anywhere. |

Well then, if he's a borderline bottom pair defensemen, Lou will surely sign him to join the other 8 or 9 bottom tier scrubs NJ has.

All of this depends on if Teemu returns, if he retires then the Ducks will keep Ryan.
BTW, have any of you REALLY looked at Ryan's stat's sheet? Yes he scores 30 goals a year but he'll have a week where he'll score 7 goals and then he disappears for a month. He also NEEDS someone to get him the puck, he's not the best at creating scoring chances on his own. |

I agree, but that's probably going to be the asking price. A good young center such as Henrique and a pick, probably not your first though. |

Yea, I think if the Ducks wanted Couturier from Philly, not sure if their was anyone else, but if it was Couturier for Ryan, than I would imagine it would be Henrique for Ryan. I would not throw in the 1st pick. Maybe Mattaeu and Henrique. We would get a proven goal scorer and a top 10 guy in a month. Than I would see what Bernier or Schneider would cost, preferably Bernier, maybe get a discount from Lombardi. Holtby would cost too much and I don't see them getting rid of him. |

this is what i'm seeing. Reading Ducks blog.. they don't seem passionate about keeping Ryan. Said he was slow and lacked aggressiveness.
also saw this bit-
