Clarkson keeping some good company. Now get out of the East. Phoenix might have some scratch to overpay him.

3rd liner who is good on the PP. Simmonds contract would be fair. Would not offer more.

If not Clarky I'm sure they can find someone else for a 3rd line role, they had 9 of them last year. That's where he belongs anyway. This roster is fixable.

I hope so to but only at a fair price if he wants anything stupid then we can be the team to give it to him but if he wants to stay and only wants like 3.5 to maybe 4 then im ok with that anything more then he is as good as gone and he will be another leader and charcter guy didn't get anything for and could have

I would be more adamant about him staying if he didn't go cold with the rest of the team down the stretch. He's gonna get a TON of money in free agency but whoever gets him is gonna regret it in a year or 2. If I'm Lou I offer 4.5/4 years, take it or leave it.

Why would th Devils go after a guy like Clowe and not resign their franchise leader in points? I get why you put Clowe on th roster. But it just seems odd to me for them to go out and sign him and let Elias walk.

He would look great on one of the Islanders top-two lines. I also wouldn't doubt he (or other free agents for that matter) consider the Islanders now that they have a young and extremely upcoming team (with a train of high-end prospects coming in from Bridgeport). The Islanders are also going to be looking for some extra grit, so why not add someone that can score some goals alongside the grit.

I still think we should have dealt him at the deadline, now we may lose him for nothing

my thoughts exactly is value will never be higher we could of possibly added another first even if it was in the 18-28 range two firsts in this draft would of been very nice

You could have EASILY grabbed a first in the 18-28 range.

I would say you could have probably grabbed a first outside maybe the top 5.

You think Edmonton couldn't use a guy like that for the 7th overall?

I think Edmonton would be stupid to give up the 7th for david clarkson. That said, they might have still done it.

You DON'T know what you are getting with Clarkson. He is either a 3rd line grinder or a guy that can park himself in front of the net and grab close to 30 goals. The flyers have 2 of the same player in Hartnell and Simmonds. One of them is overpaid and the other is black. I'd rather him get paid like Simmonds than get the Hartnell treatment.

no one was going to give the devils anything decent first round for Clarkson. Look at what Kovalchuk commanded for what was a perceived rental. People don't throw out top 6 forwards when you think you are making the playoffs.

I think he would have if Ott can get you Roy then he could of easily fetched a first when you think about everything he does if kovy isn't scoring then well he isn't really doing anything if Clarkson isn't scoring at least he can fight hit or draw penalties that adds a lot of value he doesn't become useless like a guy who can only bring offense to the table but that is just my $0.02

Ryan Clowe got a second and a third and a conditional pick and he hadn't scored all season at the time. I think Clarkson would have got a decent return, but I'd rather resign him.

Elias is on there, right above the word DEFENSEMEN. I just didn't put him on a line. The main point was that NJ should be able to afford adding a REAL piece or two. Not these garbage bottom 6 guys like Poni, Dags, Sullivan, Barch, etc etc. Sorry, I should have made it clearer.

NJ has room to make some moves, and if Lou wants anyone to take this team seriously he's going to have to. Don't let the first x amount of games fool you. This team needs scorers. From somewhere, and NJ's system is very thin at FW.

Thinking Boucher can jump right in next year and contribute significantly, while not out of the realm of possibility, would be careless to bank on.

They need a sniper...or two. They have more than enough grinder and scrubs to fill out the bottom 6. Lou needs to shed some of the slow old decrepit defense and add to the FWs. That's all I'm saying. If Clarkson wants more than $4M per he can go to Toronto. Lou needs to stop rewarding guys for one great season or for being a Devils umpteen years ago. At some point loyalty will bite you. Just look at a couple of the 35+ deals he's inked. Had no business doing so.

He needs to let this roster get younger & faster. Otherwise they won't compete.
