CANUCKS FIELDING CALLS ON LUONGO AHEAD OF TRADE DEADLINE

"[GM Mike Gillis] is in discussion with multiple teams," Canucks assistant general manager Laurence Gilman told TSN's Farhan Lalji. "Talks are beyond the 'tire kicking' stage."

While not stating the teams involved for Luongo's services, Gilman did lay out some of what the club could be looking for in a trade.

"We need a third-line centre, but no one is going to steal Roberto from us," Gilman stated. "We're not moving him for a rental. We need something for today and tomorrow."

My two cents....

I wouldn't trade Jensen at all. His numbers in Chicago this season are not stellar, like you indicated, but he is not getting top line or top power play time either. I think Jensen has some great upside in terms of talent. He's not a #1 line guy in the NHL, but he is a solid 2nd liner. I would love to see Jensen with Hansen and Schroeder. Jensen and Hansen can do some "Danish hockey magic" on the ice, and Schroeder can add the faceoff skill and tertiary scoring ability.

If you asked me last year, I would have traded Raymond, but he is playing well this year. I think Higgins is on the way out. He has been a good player for the Canucks in previous seasons, but I think his play is lacking this season (maybe because his linemate Malhotra is out). Sweatt should be traded. He has had a couple of callups and has failed to deliver.

To Be Traded:
1) Higgins (explained above)
2) Sweatt (explained above)
3) Ballard (expensive 6th defensemen, fast, hip checks, lack of offense)
4) Booth (expensive and low offense, injured frequently)
5) Luongo (Don't get me wrong, if there was a way to keep both Lou and Schneider, I'm all for it. Lou needs to go where he is the #1 and can mentor young goalies. But it is imperative that we have a good back up for Schneider.)
6) Archibald (decent offense, ready to make jump to NHL)
7) Joslin (good d-man, low offense)

Potential Canucks:
1) Mike Ribeiro (rental)
2) Pascal Dupius (re-sign)
3) Tyler Bozak (re-sign)
4) Brad Boyes (re-sign)
5) Mathieu Garon (re-sign 1 year if he gels with Schneider)
6) Andrej Sustr (trade)
7) David Moss (trade)

Potential Trades:

1)
To Toronto:
Luongo + Sweatt + 5th Round Pick
To Vancouver:
Bozak + 1st Round Pick

2)
To Tampa Bay:
Higgins + Joslin + 6th Round Pick
To Vancouver:
Garon + Sustr

3)
To NY Islanders:
Ballard + Archibald
To Vancouver:
Boyes + 4th Round Pick

4)
To Phoenix:
Booth + 3rd Round Pick
To Vancouver:
Moss

Kassian has been playing with an injured back for most the year. The only thing that blows is my mind when seeing just how desperate Sabres fans are for respectability by spouting off the short term benefits of a trade that has taken them to last place in the conference. (Sorry, I do not include Florida, they are supposed to be there. Buffalo shouldn't be.)

you want that to be so true don't you. Sorry but he'll be a fine NHL'er for a long time to come. When he's 25 and being sent down the the minors, we'll talk.

I'm not going to start tugging myself until I see the actual trade on TSN. Gillis has disappointed me before. So the gun stays holstered until then.

Oh boy, no. The Lightning don't need another bottom-six winger, another AHL D-man, or a sixth round pick for our backup (#1 right now) goaltender and a stud college defenseman signed last week.
