As many have heard, Nicklas Jensen and Bill Sweatt were recalled today. Now this may be an audition to see if one or both of them is the answer to Vancouver’s lack of scoring and are ready to step in and push out a veteran. Or this could be an audition for them as trade bait to bring someone in.

With last years Hodgson nightmare still fresh in fan’s minds, is it about to happen again?

As far as Sweatt goes, I like the guy. But if he is part of a package to bring in someone who can help Vancouver win a Cup, I am okay with moving him. He’s had three year to crack the lineup and hasn’t really looked like much more than a third-liner at the NHL level.

Stats

56GM/12G/29PTS/-3/6PIM

All in all, I think he is being showcased and you will see him get around 12 minutes tomorrow night.

Jensen on the other hand I am worried about, mainly because of last season. All the reports I have read is that he isn’t playing much in Chicago, so going by that, I would guess he hasn’t “earned” his call-up. That leads me to believe that there is a team or teams out there that want a look at Jensen at the NHL level. If he spends most of the game getting showcased with the twins, start to get worried Canucks fans because his days are likely numbered.

Stats

SEL- 50GM/17G/23PTS/-12/16PIM
AHL- 11GM/2G/4PTS/-3/2PIM

As you can tell from the stats, not exactly screaming that he’s NHL ready.

The only rental I would have moved Jensen for was Iginla, so if Gillis moves him in the next few days it better be for someone who is young and ready to contribute at the NHL level.

It can’t be Hodgson for Kassian all over again. If he is moved it has to be for another player of equal value (or as part of a package for one). Ie…

Ryan Johansen
Gustav Nyquist
Erik Gudbranson
Jonathan Huberdeau
Jacob Josefson
Casey Cizikas
J.T. Miller
Chris Kreider
Sean Couturier
Brayden Schenn
Logan Couture
Tyler Johnson
Marcus Johansson
John Carlson
Brandon Gormley
Ryan Sproul
Xavier Ouellet
Etc…

So who would you deal Jensen for?

Make “Haunt You” the goal song

Honestly, this is the song that the Canucks have been looking for to jack up the Vancouver crowd and drive the opposition nuts. And what could be better than having two good Vancouver girls singing after every Canucks goal? Nothing! And it is easy for the crowd to sing along.

Tweet up DJ Dave at @CanucksDJDave and @VanCanucks and make it happen Canucks fans. We wanna hear it!

Here’s a preview, with a couple of other ideas for the intro and goal song…

Thoughts?

That's a wrap

Ian
