Good point. Still, the deal has to be there; can't give him away for nothing. Better to risk moving him next year at the draft or deadline. Dude from NJD asked why trade him. Because he will likely not be here at the end of his contract. Starting today, picks and prospects are more valuable.

I think the offers will be there......if i was feaster , i'd offer to eat some of the cap hit; i think the deals would be a bit better if he did that.

A few things...

If Calgary is serious about going through a rebuild, they're not going to be in a position to challenge LA for the three remaining years that Giordano would have on his contract. You take the best you can get from whoever you can get it from, divisional opponent or not.

As any team that has gone through a rebuild will tell you, you need several components to be successful....

First, as many draft picks you can get your hands on, as early in the draft that you can get them.

Second, quality young prospects that will be in their prime and in a position to take over leadership of the team once the rebuild is complete (i.e. 5-7 years from now, so you're looking for players in the 18-24yo age range).

Third, quality veterans that are beyond their primes, but have the experience to mentor the young players that will take over leadership. They should be in the 35-38yo age range so that they can stick around for a few years. Players like Willie Mitchell, Michel Handzus, Saku Koivu, etc. Mitchell has been to the playoffs with four different teams and has been to the promised land. You can't say the same thing about Regher.

In a trade with LA, you get all 3. You get a 2nd round pick, a quality defensive prospect, and an experienced veteran to mentor the young players.

You laugh at Willie Mitchell, but he has been playing on quality teams for the past 6 years, and has experience on a winning team. He was the pillar of the Kings defense on their cup run, and one of the main reasons that Quick put up such phenomenal numbers last year, but has marginal numbers this year.

histerically actually... We should have kept Aucoin by that logic. Man this franchise has been poop on for keeping veterans and you suggest Willie Mitchell? when this season is done, the Flames organization (I suspect) will look NOTHING like todays. There will be enough "mentors" in the 35-85 year old range to add to the line up. Mitchell was one of the main reasons Quick had success? I must have watched a different Stanley Cup run...

I got sick of that shat ages ago. I actually prefer it here where I don't need to be verbally assaulted by Leafs fans (their trolls in particular) about how awful and wrong the team I choose to watch is. Vitriolic garbage is all their mouths can produce. The moment you present them with a reasonable counter-argument they either refute it with some pointless opinion of theirs or ignore it because they know they've been proven wrong. That having been said, a lot of the Oilers fans in that thread annoy me, too!

Yes actually...Mitchell was by far the best defenseman on the Kings last year. Willie Mitchell played second most minutes per game on the team behind only Drew Doughty. Drew Doughty was on the ice for every power play that the Kings had. Willie Mitchell was on the ice for every penalty kill. Kings were ranked 4th in the NHL in PK during the regular season. Ask any Kings fan who the Kings' best defenseman was last year? Most of them will say Willie Mitchell.

Here's a poll on the Kings official blog if you don't believe me.

Colin Dambrauskas: Move Iginla - Check...Who's Next? Bouwmeester to Ottawa/Boston?
- Colin Dambrauskas

Stempniak should maybe get a 2nd rd pick, hopefully.
Gio, I hope he doesn't move.

At the end of the day, Iginla shortened his list to 1, and the Flames got a lesser deal because of it. Either way, it's a return.

NO MORE LW DRAFT PICKS PLEASE

Update to Blog:

Update - It has been reported that the Flames and defenseman Jay Bouwmeester have been in discussion about a trade, and further that there is interest from six teams around the NHL. While the teams have not been mentioned so far, I could imagine that the Leafs, Bruins, Canadiens, Oilers and Kings would be on the list. Possibly even the Blues.

I think Glencross would get a significant return. His contract is friendly so other GMs should be clamouring for him.

Because that worked so well for the oilers. Trading everyone for picks is stupid. You need to keep some building blocks

Example Alffy has been a mentor for kids like karlsson, zibby and silfverberg, Lehner

- Paul99

yes I hear Alffy has taught Lehner everything he knows
