every team can offer him the same money.

Yes, but only Toronto can arrange for airport security to apprehend him and stop him flying out if he comes to Toronto to meet folks and then chooses another team

He can only actually get that max if he hits all bonuses and some of them are pretty far-fetched from what I've read on rookie contracts.

A lot of banter about nothing. Scouts and analysts say he is the real deal and since none of you are paid to do that, I am taking their word. Any team that gets him will be lucky. As for where his ties are in terms of family, it doesn't matter. Schultz didn't go play with his friends, he went somewhere he wanted to play with people he liked. Edmonton has the ability to attract young players. We don't have much be we do have that.

As for whether we want him, why not. As for what to do with the rest of the d, sign them all and dump them in the off season if they don't trade by the deadline. They are worth less as a rental and might sign for less if we made it look like they were staying. That gives us time to analyze what we got and where the draft leads us in needs. Why decide their fates now? Don't get me wrong, every player has a price and if that is offered, take it but odds are it won't be so sit on them for now.

For the leafs fans that think a college UFA doesn't want to play in Edmonton after seeing the way Schultz is treated and then get the chance to probably play with a guy like schultz, you are kidding yourself. Schultz is a future hall of fame dman and everyone knows it. He is the next coming of paul coffey and to be his pairing can only bring amazing things to your career. The face of hockey has changed again and Edmonton, like Chicago and Pittburgh before it, will soon be a destination of choice for FAs rather than a place where no one would sign.

Yeah great idea!! Add yet another kid to a team full of kids with absolutely zero solid veteran leadership, so when the Oilers sink to the very bottom of the standings before the end of the season....they can draft....yep, you guessed it!! ANOTHER kid with their top 5 pick!!! The Oilers are like Lord of The Flies. A bunch of kids stranded on an island with no adults. What I am saying with this sarcasm is....enough kids already. Add some solid veteran leadership to help mold and guide the obvious over abundance of talent in Edmonton. It's so simple.

As much as I would want to believe what you say. You are definitely overly optimistic about the Oilers unless I missed your sarcasm.

I bet they will. They'll offer the 995,000 plus bonuses. What those bonuses are may differ. But I bet they all amax out at 3.775.

I mostly agree, but any time you can get a free prospect you take it. But if they are offering top 4 minutes to reel him in, no thank you. Agreed on the need for leadership, this team needs a legit top pair Dman to play with Schultz and a solid top 6 forward to create space for the kids. Campbells contract is pretty large, but he is the type of player needed on the backend, someone who is calm with the puck, can skate it out or make a great breakout pass.

Seems fairly simple, no?? Oh ya, ol Boys Oiler management can't comprehend this idea. Let's just throw huge money at the kids with no guidance or leadership, works in the real world, it should work for an ego filled NHL dressing room too...

So sad really......

Wait a second here. Do they even have the contract space to sign the kid? I thought the Oilers filled up their last contract slot when they (for God knows what reason) signed Travis Ewanyk to a contract. Am I missing something?

Im sure they could move any number of people to make it happen. If the kid wants to be in EDM, all they gotta do is say ok, give us a minute to move something.

Why are you laughing, that's what you want to happen in Detroit and our kids aren't nearly as talented.

He does count as a contract though. No matter where he is. There is a signed contract. My understanding of it atleast.

If he does sign in Edm, I'd bet he plays the rest of this season in OKC. He's a guy who could benefit from that. Especially with the lack of D down there, he'd probably step in and be #1 down there...
