Updated 3pm: Word from Bob McKenzie that DeKeyser will be in Toronto on Tuesday and Wednesday to meet face-to-face with representatives from teams. He's bringing hockey equipment with him and he wants to fly directly to the city he's selected so he can join his new team immediately. Apparently, several GM's and one coach are planning to meet with him. I'd bet my entire $5.75 allowance the coach is Ralph Krueger, who was instrumental in convincing Justin Schultz to join the Oilers.

Word from Hockey God Bob McKenzie just now regarding top NCAA prospect Danny DeKeyser. According to McKenzie, DeKeyser has been approached directly by Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz. DeKeyser is 6' 3", 198lbs and is described as a solid two-way defenseman.

This would be huge for the Oilers if it occurs. Having DeKeyser, Justin Schultz, Jeff Petry and Oscar Klefbom as the Oilers future Top 4 would clarify the defensive situation in a significant and meaningful way.

It's though as many as 27 teams will make offers to DeKeyser. There's three reasons I can think of why DeKeyser could choose the Oilers:

1. The amazing young core of players that is being assembled.

2. The opportunity to play Top 4 minutes almost immediately.

3. The "Justin Schultz" factor. You better believe the Oilers will have Krueger, Schultz, and former Oilers like Paul Coffey and Wayne Gretzky make phone calls in an effort to influence his decision.

McKenzie went further to say Detroit, St. Louis, Anaheim and Edmonton are the top contenders to acquire the prospect.

More on this when information becomes available. Danny DeKeyser is @DeKeyser5 on Twitter. Sign him up and encourage him to join the Oilers! He'd help us tremendously.
