instead you hinder our one and only winger prospect by putting him on the 3rd line or even 4th line like they did with jeffrey

i really hope shero gets a top 6 winger and shows you how wrong you are... hindering bennetts ability is far worse then hurting dupes feelings by putting him on the 3rd line, where it would be more balanced offense and he would help the 3rd lineproduce more plus his defensive abailities would make that 3rd line stronger....

- nh4442

I disagree completely. Letting Bennett ride 3rd line in the playoffs is not hindering a first year players development. It takes some of the pressure away if anything.

Jagr was not on the first line in 91 or 92 and he seemed to turn out ok. The risk of leaving Bennett with Malkin and Neal comes on the defensive side where neither is particularly solid and Bennett is still unproven.

I don't see the need for a top 6 guy. However IF a top 6 upgrade comes it should be for Bennett's spot.

Don't touch the first line, there is nothing wrong with it.

This is a fact. A guy like Duper, producing and playing for peanuts should not get bounced to the 3rd line. The chemistry that has developed on the first line is years in the making.

He won't be. Once this trade deadline passes we can hopefully move on from this crazy talk.

I think Morrow would be a cheaper fix to that third line. I love the idea of Kennedy on the fourth. He'd add speed and has scored big goals before. He'd create chances and be able to fill in on the third occasionally.
- jchst22

On board with this. Get someone who is tough to play against and can pot a few timely goals in TK's spot and let TK grind it out on the 4th line with Vitale and Adams.

Bennett's skill set is a waste on the 3rd line, if a top 6 is added (which it wont be) that means Bennett is going back to WBS. Which would be very dumb.

yes it will, and we have seen it... with tangradi, jeffrey, johnson (sorry walshy), letestu, etc... if you have a guy playing top 6 in ahl, you need to put him on top 6 in nhl and get the playing time and get the confidence... if he can not handle it then u send him back down or trade him... there have multiple reports on this...

and yes i am saying if tangradi or jeffrey would have been slotted next to sid when they first got called up they would have been better than what they are today...

- nh4442

Uhh NH all of these guys suck. Bennettis the first guy with any real top 6 potential to come up through the system not named Crosby, Malkin, or Staal. If anyone hurt their development I'd have to pin it on the players themselves.

It won't hurt his development as a player at all, it will hurt the Penguins chances of winning a Stanley Cup. He isn't a playoff style third line player, nor does he need to be. It's top 6 or bust for Bennett on this current roster. Fortunately he has done nothing to be bumped off that 2nd line so it's a non issue.

Spot on. If anything he's done more than most of us expected. Plays well defensively. Very unselfish. Lately, seems to be getting more physical. I love it. If he can pick his spots a bit better as far as shooting goes he will be even better.

Bennett is better than Jeffrey, Tangradi, Johnson or Letestu. None of those guys have the skill and vison that Bennett has shown.

Claude Giroux started out as a third liner for most of the first season and a half of his career.

Except for the VERY high picks, most of the top players in the league broke in as third liners. You act like being put on a third line is a career death sentence.

Looking forward to that. I think we went nuts last year hoping for a move that never came. I think the majority say fix the bottom 6, and the top 4 on d.

And if its the name we have heard from Phoenix that we have been pursuing for the last few years - we don't match up well with them as far as a deal. Say we did, Bennett would be going. Letang would be gone in the offseason for sure.

From Rossi article:
In any case, Iginla is on the Penguins’ radar, and Shero has coveted what he could bring in the dressing room – veteran leadership and a sense of going for it attitude to a group that consists of 12 players to have won the Cup in 2009 – as much as what he could do on the ice; though, Shero does believe Iginla can contribute on the ice.

There were scouts from seven clubs at Consol Energy Center on Tuesday night. The regulars (Tampa Bay and Columbus, the latter which has had officials here often the past few weeks) were joined by scouts from Colorado, Winnipeg, Boston, Edmonton, San Jose and, indeed, Calgary. Edmonton had two scouts at the game.

= One bit of information picked up after the game is that there is a growing sense, at least within the league, that the Penguins will make a push to add several players before the trade deadline.

They continue to target a top-four defenseman, preferably a partner for Letang, which would allow Matt Niskanen anchor a third defense pairing. The coaching staff believes Niskanen is one of the NHL’s better fifth defensemen, and that the overall corps would benefit if he could bring stability to a third pairing.

The Penguins are currently carrying eight defensemen. Only rookie Simon Despres would need not clear waivers for an AHL assignment.

= The Penguins also want to bolster their bottom-six forwards, ideally with a one of two players, including a center that could contribute on the penalty kill in a fourth-line role. The club also is looking for a third-line option on the right wing, though coaches are enthused by the recent coming-around play of RW Tyler Kennedy.

= Newer information, however, has the Penguins looking for a top-six winger in addition to the defense and lower lineup needs.

There is some concern that rookie LW Beau Bennett, coming off two injury-shortened college seasons, might not physically hold up for another three months of hockey, especially with the every-other-day format of this truncated regular season and the playoff grind.

The word late Tuesday night was that the Penguins may look for a veteran on an expiring contract, one who could play the left wing on a line with Malkin and RW James Neal. The Penguins want to spark Malkin and Neal, who were so dominant last season, but had combined to score 11 of their 22 goals on the power play.

The aim is to find 5-on-5 comfort for Malkin and Neal.

This does not eliminate Bennett from the mix going forward, but a second-line left winger would give the Penguins some options – and one of those options might be, if Kennedy is part of any trade, for Bennett to work in some on the opposite wings on the third line with LW Matt Cooke and C Brandon Sutter.

Coaches like Bennett’s skill and how it leads to puck possession in tight quarters, and they also have been impressed with his defensive awareness.

So, indeed, and as expected, there is growing buzz, even if there is no indication that trade talks are turning serious.

= Something to consider: The Penguins will play only 10 games after April 3. They play that night – at the New York Rangers – and there is a preference to do something sooner rather than at the deadline, though there is not a lot of reason for optimism that a deal would get done soon because this remains a sellers’ market.
