I don't know if I would go as far as saying that but for a rookie to come into the NHL and be able to shutdown the likes of Malkin, I would be considering him to be a potential key piece to the Flyers organization, especially since Pits and Phi are in the same division. - EastCoastOiler
Malkin had 8 points in 6 games. How is that being shut down? |

"The way that Couturier, as a rookie no less, basically shut down Evgeni Malkin in the playoffs last year has many teams around the NHL seeing Selke Trophies in his not-too-distant future."
Malkin had 8 points in 6 games..... Not sure how you considered that as being "shut down". - madmike71

Only one point in that series came with Couturier out on the ice for the Flyers.

probably would have had 20 if he were playing against briere. - Philly1980
Staal vs. Briere was the most unfavorable even-strength matchup for the Flyers in that series. Giroux line went against Crosby but also sometimes against Malkin line. Malkin saw a lot of Couturier, and only had one point in the series (Game 6 PPG, I believe) when Couturier was out against him. Couturier also had a Game 2 hat trick primarily matched against Malkin.

5 years 20M.
The longer the deal 6,7,8, the bigger the cap will be as they would most likely be going into his UFA years and those won't be cheap. |

Yes, when you look at it on paper 8 pts in 6 games doesn't sound too bad or that he was shutdown but if you watched the series it would say otherwise. Malkin only got 3 goals in that series but could of had many many more if it wasn't for Couturier. |
