Sunday 1/20 - National TV 12:30 vs Philly - Irish 14
I'm a big fan of this sports day marathon! Sabres puck drop (Sucks that it's on NBC though, gotta listen to how the Flyers are the greatest team in the world all game) Followed by AFC and NFC Championship games... gonna be quite the unhealthy day of eating and relaxing |

Agreed, though Grigorenko is an outside chance to make the team, and Girgensons is long, long from it. My puzzlement is I see Hecht being so much like Leino, not sure now what the plan is for the best beard on the team. - nfph
With a small sample size from Leino and a large one from Hecht I cant come to the conclusion that they are the same player except that they dont play an exciting brand of Hockey. Jochen played a solid 2 way game he helped way more than he hurt. Leino has hurt way more than he has helped.
IMHO Jochen is just a better version of Matt Ellis. He doesn't blow you away but he won't get you off your seats either. Both get the job done. |

Sorry, but anyone who says they wouldn't want to win the cup this year because of the short season or an * is a dumb@$$. - Chipd
I highly doubt we'll be winning anything so don't worry too much. |

The only similarity between Leino and Hecht is that they are both wingers forced to play center in Buffalo |

Armory is the EXACT type of player missing from this roster. Look what Recchi brought to the Bruins' lineup ? I was screaming for 3 years for Darcy to go after Recchi or Arnott or Langenbrunner. These guys add so much to the team. Roy is addition by subtraction.
Down by a goal late in the game every Sabre on the bench has their head down waiting for a leader to say or do something. Vanek and Pommer don't have the voice to lead a group of Girl Scouts. Great supporting guys but they need a leader. - Pairo11
They need a star player. If there looking for a goal late in a game, it needs to be a top6 guy they put on the ice, not a bottom 6 guy IMO |

That wasn't directed at you, if it had been I would have quoted a comment from you. Just was making a general statement. |

10,000X better. Jochen hecht has skill. he has scored 20 goals at the NHL level. he can skate and is a solid defensive player. He is on the decline obviously but Matt Ellis would never sniff 10g in his prime, he is a Lindy favorite because he always works hard. Hecht doesnt always play hard |

Like you said. With no gerbe and no mcmuscle Hecht isn't a bad idea. Especially for a shortened season. Calm down ppl. |

I agree at this point....
I am just curious of what these lines are going to look like...
We know Foligno - Ennis - Stafford will be together..
Didn't Homer throw out that they really liked Ott - Hodge - Pommer?
That would leave... Vanek - Hecht - Leino? |

It's the Sabres. Once you're here, you're tenured into the organization for as long as you want. Regardless of how useless you are. |

Lindy has said he wants to keep Hodson with Vanek and Pommer, Ennis line stays together and possibly Ott taking faceoffs then shifting with Leino. 3rd and 4th lines are up in the air IMO. |

Yeah, they should go sign Sidney Crosby. Where will they get this 'Star' ?
Not poking fun at you. I agree they need a major contributor that can score but those guys are signed already. This roster pretty much is what it is. Arnott would add a lot more than an Ellis, McCormick, etc. |

I didn't scroll up to remember who said it.. but in the next 2 years.. this roster is going to look COMPLETELY different...
Vanek, Pommer, Stafford, and Miller could all leave... I personally hope we keep Pommer as our gritty two way vet player that does everything...
Grigorenko, Girgensons, Armia, Foligno, Ennis, Hodgson, Tropp are all up and coming players.
On D.. we will have Myers, Ehrhoff (vet leader), McCabe, Brennan, Pysyk, JGL, McNabb all under our powers for a long time...
I'm sure I am forgetting a prospect or two. |

Despite them playing together in Germany, I can't see Hecht playing with Pommer. It would mean Hecht coming up to the first line, or Pommer dropping to the third... which is absurd.
I can't imagine the Hecht signing also signals the end of Grigo experiment this season. I believe he's gonna get his shot, and it's his to lose. I just don't know where all these 'healthy' bodies are going to play... |

I think hecht is another depth player that basically knows the system well... has the ability to score points.. but just saves us from having to call up Kevin Porter or Matt Ellis in my mind... |

I was just stating what Homer said...
I don't like vanek and pommer together... especially with Hodgson between them... only Pommer plays any form of defense. |

Never doubt the chaos that is Lindy Ruffs line combinations |
|
|
|
Pretty sure lindy has said already that he wants van and pommer playing with Hodgson to start the season. Give the kid a chance to prove hes our number one guy. I think he will take advantage of it. Lindy also said staff ennis and foligno will start together.
That leaves our bottom 2 lines.
Hecht HAS NOT been signed....teams cannot sign players until the CBA is ratified by the players association. Hes better than our current options unless Grigo makes the team. Hecht can play wing too so its not an issue. Hes not a bad player to have on the bottom 6. Great guy. Leader. When healthy is more than effective especially in his own end. I like it. Wont get 3 mill or even more than 1 mill to play 48 games. Get over it people. |

Not anymore. Every team that is out has an equal chance, under new CBA |

I get what your saying. Im just sick of hearing about the guys like Gaustad and a bunch of 4th liners supposed to be leaders, you will never hear teams like Pitt or Phi talking about 4th line leaders because they dont need to mask their lack of talent by signing "leaders", thats why guys like Crosby, Giroux, Stamkos are all captains, they lead by example |
