UPDATE: Did a little digging on Steve Burton and he did break the Kessel Testicular cancer story a few years back...which tells you he has connects high up at the team who trust him...and everything through Boston goes through Jacobs...Like Jacobs or not, I dont doubt Bettman would tell Jacobs news like this before he would tell almost any one...
- Eklund

yes and other MLB/NFL stories.

Steve Burton grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts and is a graduate of Northwestern University holding a bachelor of science degree in Communications and a master's degree in Broadcast journalism.

He is a great reporter.

I calculated the gains for the players if the lockout ended today and they had their demands met.

net gain is minus 746 million dollars.

thank god they play hockey and aren't running for governor

I just heard "the meeting" was held last night .

They said Tuesday to throw all the dogs scents of the trail.

Not sure if its true but it is what I just heard, it was also speculated that Steve Ott of the Sabres was one of the six players that was present.

Dont shoot the messenger please.

I doubt this, Every news media outlet would be all over this story as soon as it was broken up in Boston.

Good way to get peoples hopes up.

Toews and Crosby will ruin any progress made today. Especially that a-hole Toews

Any idea why the PA would elect to send two players who will ruin any progress made today? What do you know that they don't?

Easy. They've already proven their collective IQ is alarmingly low. Nothing they do makes any sense. Why would this move?

I'm interested in this comment. Is Toews thought of as an a-hole outside of Chicago? Or did he do something specific that I missed? Not upset by your comment, just curious about it.

Sending out largely un-educated 20-somethings to try to "reason" with the fanbase about finance, many of whom are lawyers, accountants, and hold other high-end positions in finance, is just a moronic idea...yet they continue to do it time and time again.

That's just one point on a laundry list of stupidity.

You don't give up assets for bad contracts. Not sure why this is so hard to get.

The ONLY thing that makes me sorta look at this, is the fact that Dreger, Lebrun or BMac haven't turned it down like they do other crazy rumors.

Apparently Daly denied it, but I don't expect him to be running with his shirt off around yelling "WE HAVE A DEAL, WE HAVE A DEAL WOOOO" either

Steve Burton is a local sportscaster on TV here in boston. sometimes he stands outside the boston garden to report on Bruins games. Not sure he has ever been thought of as an insider on the NHL.. no shot I am buying his nonsense which I though another local guy Joe Haggerty said was actually a false report?

There is not even a mention of it in Boston.com today

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/?

Here is the video showing the report:

Leafs are not set in net and Luongo would help them big time in the short term. Long term it will be a disaster. I don't care how good a guy is. If he's got a bad contract he's worth nothing in a cap system. If Burke was signed for the next ten years he wouldn't touch him IMO. It would be a desperate move to save his job.
