Keep him the hell out of Toronto! Unless your sending us a first rounder back, with him, the trade should be Lombardi and Komiserk. |

under 80 games. 14 games one year, 64 the next. Along with 110 PIMs.
Like many other things Leafs, it wasn't a bad move, just turned out bad. Owen Nolan was just 30 when they traded for him, and played over 70 games all but a couple of the preceding 7 or 8 seasons. And over 60 EVERY season. It's not like they picked up some guy that habitually played 20 games a year.
And a winger that could pot 60 points over a full season, along with beating the hell out of the opposition night in night out, is a guy you trade for, when you’re contending for a cup. At the time, he was still very much a Lucic type guy. He caught a rut in the ice, and that was it. For his career, for the most part.
You can look back over those years and see a lot of traded draft picks for guys that didn’t work out. But those trades made perfect sense over those years, because the Leafs were contenders. That’s what you do, when you’re gunning for a cup. Trades for guys like Owen Nolan, and Brian Leetch, may look bad in hindsight, but given the chance, in that situation, I would personally do it again every time.
It’s the trades of draft picks after the lockout, when they were nowhere near contenders, that you should be criticizing. Raycroft for Rask, Kessel for draft picks, etc, etc, etc. Those are the ones you shake your head at.
And, I guess this is how it went this way in the first place, exactly why the Leafs shouldn't trade away a single young player with potential for Luongo. |

for sure.
I still say the Kessel trade was a great trade, BUT, at the wrong time.
the skill he brings at that age is rare, very rare.
problem was, the rest of the team was HORRIBLE at the time...if leafs did a kessel like trade back in the early 2000's or earlier - Sundin would have had him scoring 40+ a season with ease.
anyhow, i like kessel, i hope he stays and i hope we continue to build this team up. personally i like the direction of the team and i dont see how we couldnt resign burke.

Thanks.......yeah, older I guess. I can remember as a 9 year old, seeing the Leafs hoist the Cup in glorious black and white. I can also remember the Ballard years and the dismemberment of the Sittler era team. I can remember the 80's and seeing the Leafs play sub 500 for almost the whole decade. I remember the 90's and the promise of the Gilmour/Clark era and always being one good forward away from the finals. I remember the 2000's and remember seeing the Leafs always a winger away from competing for the Cup. Then the last lockout and the JFJ debacle, just so Taninmonkey and his crew of socialist teachers could suck all of the cash out of the Leafs Nation. So Luongo? Piss on him, I'd rather tank one more year and have the number 1 centre and elite player that this team has missed for 30 years. Luongo get's us the 10th pick or worse! |

Yep, I’ve said that since BEFORE day one, it’s a bad trade, because it makes it too difficult to acquire the rest of the players to make a contending squad. 2 firsts and a second are a pretty good price to pay for Kessel, even at the time, assuming you’ve got a team that will at least be borderline playoffs. I’d give up two mid first rounders for Kessel any day of the week. I mean, looking at the 15th overall, I’d give up Derek Forbert and JT Miller for Kessel easily. I’d even give up a couple of top ten draft picks, had it been a couple of years later, and the Leafs already had Seguin and Hamilton in the system. And in fact, had they made the playoffs instead of giving up Tyler Seguin, it still begs the question, where would they get a couple more top young players to play with him, and improve past a borderline playoff team? |

I'm going to slightly disagree. He's better than what they have currently and would improve the g'tending.
For me it comes down to 2 things ...
1. The new CBA - what happens to those retirement years
2. Price - if he comes cheap then I could get behind it.
At this point though I'd prefer hanging on 'til next summer when their are a few other options. |

At this point, it’s probably about 40 games. I’d rather let Reimer take another stab at it, and hope his injury issues are behind him.
I mean, look at last year, anything can happen over a 40 game span. If there is a season, why not just let it ride and hope? What’s the worst that can happen? They fail a half season and get another top draft pick? I’m good with that too….
Plus, Luongo will be what, 34 by the time NEXT season starts? If there is no season this year, are you really on board with trading for a goalie that’s 34, an age that a good portion of players retire at?

I agree. If Luongo came to the Leafs and, if he starts letting in the soft goals like he did in Vancouver, it will get ugly very quickly. |
