Why are the players screwed if they say yes? They don't mind beaking off about Bettman on Twitter. Why not go right to the source and tell their bosses how they really feel?
- SUPERDOMINO

Who do you think would have an advantage in a negotiating session? Owners or players?

Eklund: Mediation Ends. Bettman Proposes Sides Meet Without Bettman and Fehr.
- Eklund

Bettman's proposal is pure PR posturing - the players would get eaten alive.

No way in hell Fehr agrees to it.

Pretty hilarious, though.

I'm pretty sure Fehr is the glue to the nhlpa and i firmely believe a majority of players want to play. On top of that, if there is some kind of negociation between them and owners, players dont get a slim chance of getting out on top.

I would agree. Can't see it happening, but who knows.

One would expect better from LeBrun. Even if it doesn't result in a deal, getting those two clowns out of the way for awhile is indisputably the HIGH point of these negotiations.
- R4Z0R

LeBrun called this the low point of the lockout because these clowns made no progress after a couple days with a mediator. If thats not a considered a low point i dont know what is

Thats what is brilliant about Bettman's proposal. If Fehr says no, players look like the one side that doesnt want to negociate.

Yes it's obvious. However, I would like to see some of these guys with the 6, 7 or 8 million dollar contracts explain to their bosses how it's a 'shake down' or that they deserve more. Especially the ones who don't perform up to their contracts.

And before you start with how the Player's are the ones giving, these players got the big contracts because their share increased by 90% since the last CBA. You know, the one they lost. LOL

Yea, it could be a PR hit. But I look past all that nonsense and rhetoric.

So the players didn't earn their contracts with their play on the ice? Someone held a gun to the Owner's heads and forced them to sign the players to those contracts? According to James Mirtle, the players lost 3.5B in salary over the last lockout. Don't get me wrong, the players still made out well. Very well in fact. Players aren't asking for more! They're asking for what they negotiated for in good faith.

They wont, because the owners want to handpick what the players are.

Which means they want to grab a bunch of 4th liners and bend them over the table, and turn them against each other. It's a tactic that obviously favors the owners, but stupid fans will fault the players when they don't agree. It's win-win for them. Either way they get leverage.

I thought you didn't like the nonsense and rhetoric? "the player's lost 3.5B in salary since the last lockout' ????

Please explain this to me.

edit: They negotiated a new CBA. Within the terms of that CBA their salaries grew by 90%. So how did they lose 3.5B again?

Read James Mirtle's article. That's not rhetoric and nonsense. I'll see if I can find the link.

My mistake, it wasn't by James Mirtle. It was in the Edmonton Journal. Here is the link

Agreed , no way Fehr will expose the players to Jeremy Jacobs and his iron fist like ways of negotiation.

And that's not rhetoric? They didn't lose anything. They negotiated a new CBA. The fact their percentage went down from 75 to 57 is irrelevant. It's a total new agreement and in that collective agreement their salaries rose by 90%

Ive been watching a lot of high school teams play actually. I find that more interesting then any pro or semi pro leagues. The college game is good too.

I think mid January is the drop dead date. They can still fit in 48 games.
- Jacob582

48 wouldn't be terrible, but I still think crowning a cup champ would be embarrassing. If your a team that struggles out of the gate through the first 10-12 games, you seriously jeporadize your chances at making the playoffs.
