Here's the problem with that.

This year the players stand to lose 1.8billion of salary which is their share at 57%. If they then went down to 50%, the next time the negotiations would happen (7years), they would be up to 2.7billion of salary according to Fehr's 7% increase each year.

So the next negotiation, even if they would go from 50% to 43%, they would still be at 2.3billion in salary which is higher than their current 1.8 at 57%.

Basically your argument is irrelenvant when the players will always make more than they did after the last CBA.

- l3ig_l2ecl

So to ask a question following this exercise.

Would you take a 12% pay cut each 7 years if you were guarenteed a 7% raise each year?
People might say that no everyone gets to play 7 years, but the ones that don't they don't care about the pay cut, they just don't want to lose a season.

... And how does the irreparable damage done by this lockout been factored into these numbers?

People are PISSED OFF with what's going on with this lockout. Many "on the fence" or "fair weather" fan have fallen off forever. Even the most loyal and dedicated are starting to crack. Momentum has been killed.

People have had enough of this bullsh!t and that will be reflected and apparent in the league's lack of growth for the next few years, and that's the best case scenario!

Don't fool yourself.

The TML have been in lockout mode since the last lockout, yet they keep selling out, and growing their business.

People get pissed off, they might act like theirs something better out there, and enjoy playing monopoly with the family instead of watching the game. In the end, everyone that threatens to leave will be back. They always are, and they always will be.

You might be on to something here. This league could use a good ol' fashioned exorcism to rid itself of the evil that has been destroying the purity of this beautiful sport for far too long.

Sad part is, this is how all business is done these days...

-US govt about to hit fiscall "cliff". Both sides holding out till the 11th hour holding citizens financially hostage

-2011 NBA lockout

-2011 NFL Holdout

-2012 Hockey lockout

-NBC just cut direct TV off at midnight. TV carriers and networks have constant battles that restult in loss of standard/critical progamming.

Its the modern world. And its (frank)ing sad.

The NHL proposed owner-player meeting: undeveloped plan, obvious PR ploy, insult to intelligence, waste of time.

In Canada, yes. In the US, I doubt it.

We both know that Toronto, Montreal, the other Canadian franchises and a few US cities are the exception to the rule when it comes to fan loyalty and making money, but what about the other 2/3 of the league?

Even on a good day in the US, the NHL is down on the list of preferred sports. We all know that NFL, MLB, NBA are ahead of the NHL. Even NCAA and NASCAR!

Sorry dude, but where it's going to hurt the NHL is south of the border, a population 10x that of Canada.

I hope you're right.

After what happened yesterday Mr Eklund will probably be forced to lower his meter from the Hump to just Progress (although you never know with him, we may be on the right side of the Hump now for all we know!). Dang, I miss those days when we were sharpening the blades!

I just want to say I have a had a great time coming to this website and reading rumors and gossip. i had a great time talking to other fans of this wonderful sport. I am sad to say though I have had enough and I am done with hockey. the only sport that had some integrity left shattered right before my eyes. To many money hungry men in the league and behind each team. Money has killed this sport and it will never recover. I hate giving up the sport I love but I have no other choice. My 9 year old son was learning how to skate and to play the sport but now has no ambition to do so. Thank you NHL for the years but here is one fan that willnever EVER watch or pay any money to you again.

Old news, I think every fan knows that the owners in that meeting will be on the same line of thought as Bettman same goes for the players.

What should be done is both sides select representatives from the other party other then the ones that we're going at it for the last 3 months.
