First time he played against Vityaz Chekhov his career would be ended by a cheap shot.

I have a feeling that as the NHL'ers trickle over to the KHL players like Tarnasky, Mirasty, Kip Brennan an Yablonsky will find themselves going back to their day jobs as garbage men and janitors.
- Ben37

Tarnasky signed with the Amerks for this upcoming season

John Toperzer: Why Sidney Crosby should play in the KHL
Evgeni Malkin's KHL debut Thursday opens eyes and possibilities of what could be

- the-mitch-wilsons

At this point, the NHL and NHLPA will probably pay Crosby not to play in the KHL. The symbol of Canadian hockey, at this point, playing overseas in Russia won't look good at all.

John,

Terrorism?

Do you really think that is a threat? Do you think somebody is really trying to attack Crosby or his surroundings as means to prove a political point? I would not call that an obvious reason for him not to play in the KHL. It sounds more like hearsay. If the kid wants to play hockey overseas, the more power to him. Certainly, he would have to adjust to the culture and language, but I think it is insulting to Russia (a country that has produced plenty of the talent that we enjoy) to say that sending Northern American players to their country is a threat to that player. We have been very lucky to host the best league in the world all of this time.

The NHL owners and players to some degree have let money and profit take priority over the game in the United States and Canada. Although I love watching the league here, I would relate this debacle as close to the current political issues in the United States. All parties involved have lost the ability to fairly negotiate and reason for the betterment of what really should be accomplished. Why not play in a market that is not running into this issue every few years?

After all, THE FAN tenders over their hard money to OWNERS AND PLAYERS, who are unwilling to get a deal done.

From what I saw Malkin had 2 assists for the game.

This is to all the Flyers fans that came here to talk $hit about Crosby:

Talking to five NHL executives, I asked each one the same question: “If you said to your owner, ‘I’ve completed a 10-year, $90-million deal with Sidney Crosby, but we can’t insure it,’ what would he say?”

All of them thought about it for a couple of seconds and then said some variation of, “He’d do it.” Although, the assistant added: “I’d like to see you ask an owner this question.” I’m working on it.

“He’s [Crosby],” said one GM. “You know, it’s a risk, but it’s a risk you take. I’m sure his injuries are a sensitive subject, but the Penguins have the medical reports. They know him better than anyone else.”

Noted a second GM: “If you don’t do it, someone else is going to.”

Added a third GM: “If you sign him to this deal and he gets hurt in two years, you’re going to look stupid. But if you don’t, he plays the next 10 years like he can and goes down as one of the best ever, you’re going to look even more stupid.”

No one likes Crosby, but no one wants to see him hurt either.

I think the G v Cindy argument spurs good debate and will be fun over the years.

Have a great evening.

cheers!

Particularly I'm a big fan of Malkin and I do believe he's the best "right now". I like Giroux's game btw.

I couldn't agree more John. I've been subconsciously thinking this for years but it really came to a head last spring when the playoffs were overlapping with the World Championships on a year that had a lot of "big teams" dumped out early and therefore their stars were in the national sides. I stopped watching the NHL entirely. The game was so much more open, skill-oriented, and exciting to watch.

People can talk grit all day long but it's (frank)ing boring and almost never results in more offense, only obstruction. If I wanted to watch the Steve Otts going to work I'd call the plumber. For all the money the NHL is going to rape the players for when all is said and done, I hope they invest it in larger rinks. That'll do more for player safety than any rule change.
