Why Sidney Crosby should play in the KHL
There are plenty of well documented reasons why Sidney Crosby shouldn’t play in the KHL. Travel, potential injury and even terrorism all give reason to pause when considering playing overseas. But for hockey fans interested in watching hockey for entertainment level, the KHL is the place to be.
Evgeni Malkin debuted for Magnitogorsk Metallurg on Thursday. The pure skating and passing displayed by Metallurg and its opponent, Salavat, was a sight for sore eyes.
The larger sheet of KHL ice allows for the consistent type of play seen in international events such as the Olympics.
Give and go plays that actually work are commonplace. The added area between the nets and the boards behind the net give forwards a chance to run plays rather than run into dead ends.
Crosby would love the size of the lanes. His speed, shiftiness and ability to see plays before they happen would be pure magic.
Because the blue lines are so wide, NHL-style dump-ins are kept to a minimum. Alexander Semin is probably even worth $7.5 million in the KHL.
Refereeing isn’t the side show it is North America because there are fewer penalties due to the open style of play.
It’s difficult to watch hockey like this because it shows just how entertaining and fun hockey can be. The NHL can’t even decide on icing.
While the entire NHL is “on ice,” the KHL is going to get some deserved extra air-time.
Bettman and the NHLPA better be careful. Pure hockey can be addictive.
Give the K a try Sid. Remember, the only thing we have to fear is Fehr itself.
Treasure Life!
