If anyone could give a reason that SJ would want to trade Thornton or why Thornton would want to leave SJ, I'd love to hear it.
For SJ, Thornton is the face of the franchise, their top line center, most points on the team, most takeaways and he's their captain. I have a hard time believing that they would lose that unless the return is huge.
For Thornton, he lives in SJ, his brother (who is his agent) also lives in SJ, he has a family there, the weather is awesome and the Sharks are HUGE in SJ. He also has a no trade clause folks so good luck getting him to waive that.

As for Doan, I wouldn't give him anything more than $5 million a season.
