Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Tuesday that Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving would meet with ownership this week to discuss his future.
He noted Treliving would like to stay with the Flames. Providing the feeling was mutual, it seemed something would get done in relatively short order.
I feel like most bet on that being the case -- Treliving has assembled a quality team that features plenty of young, high-end talent -- but ownership wasn't pleased with the way things ended this season and it appears they may be ready to move on as a result.
There were rumblings of ownership considering a change but I figured that was simply a natural reaction to a disappointing end of the season.
Treliving has presumably met with ownership already -- it's the end of the work week -- and we still haven't heard anything. The more time that passes, the more unsure I am about Treliving's future in Calgary.
Apparently, I'm not alone on that train of thought.
As I've mentioned numerous times, Treliving has done a lot of good things for the Flames, especially of late. He drafted Matthew Tkachuk, he traded for Dougie Hamilton, he signed Michael Frolik, he signed Kris Versteeg for pennies, etc, etc.
Treliving's record isn't squeaky clean -- the Troy Brouwer and Lance Bouma contracts are terrible -- but the good has outweighed the bad and there's plenty of reason to be optimistic about the team's future.
I hope he'll be around to see it but, as each day passes, I get the feeling that is becoming less likely. We'll find out soon enough.
