With the off-season beginning to slow down, I figured now would be a good time to get the readers involved with a Q&A post.
Let's get right to the questions.
I think so. The Flames have the pieces in place to really make some noise this season. I like their scoring depth up front and their top-4 is among the very best in the league. If Mike Smith holds up, and I think he *should* be able to playing behind a very good defense, the Flames will be very good.
I still think the Flames should sign another top-9 forward -- Jaromir Jagr, perhaps -- but that's pretty close to what we'll see this fall.
I'd have Rasmus Andersson on the team instead of Matt Bartkowski and would flip Micheal Ferland with Kris Versteeg, though.
I think so. Monahan had a disasterous start to the season and still ended up with a very respectable 27 goals and 58 points.
At 22, his best days are still ahead of him and having a better supporting cast -- there's less dead weight in the lineup, particularly on defense -- should only help.
I could see 30 goals and 65 to maybe even 70 points for Monahan this year.
I love Hamilton but, unfortunately, I think that's unlikely. He had a tremendous season from start to finish and still didn't get nearly as much recognition as he should have. He's one of those guys who is a lot better than many perceive him to be and that will probably continue.
Perhaps with more people following the Flames this season -- many (rightfully) see them as a high-end team -- he'll get more credit if he can duplicate last year's success.
I think he has a decent shot, especially if the Flames don't add another top-9 forward during the off-season. The 3rd line right wing job is up for grabs and with a good camp he can take it.
It's important to keep expectations in check, though. If he made the team and contributed ~10 goals and ~25 points (Alex Chiasson numbers, basically) that'd be a really good year from him.
I think Andersson could be NHL ready as soon as this fall and that he definitely possesses top-4 upside.
His counting totals from last season won't 'wow' you but they are solid for a player of his age. His underlying numbers were really good, too, and better than a lot of his peers.
I've been sky-high on Andersson since Day 1 of Barrie Colts training camp a few years ago and he's given me no reason to change my opinion. He's going to be a really good player.
