1) On Friday I made the case that Johnny Gaudreau is a better player than Sean Monahan and deserves to be compensated accordingly.

If you're still unconvinced take a look at their HERO charts (via OwnThePuck) to see how they compare in a handful of major categories.

As you can see Gaudreau is clearly the superior player. Monahan is a slightly more efficient goal scorer but Gaudreau has him beat in overall production, shot generation and, yes, shot suppression.

As much as people want to believe Monahan adds more defensively the numbers prove that to be inaccurate. Like I said on Friday, Monahan is only 21 and is definitely not a finished product but to this point he is inferior to Gaudreau in terms of shot and goal suppression. Those are indisputable facts the numbers show and not an unquantifiable opinion.

Giving them matching contracts doesn't make sense unless it's Gaudreau signing for less than he is worth ($7.5-8M+) rather than the other way around for Monahan.

2) Jiri Hudler's best days are undoubtedly behind him but I continue to be amazed that he remains unsigned.

Defensively he is nothing special but there is no denying his ability to put up points and produce offense. Over the last two seasons he has 77 5 v 5 points, which ties him for 15th(!!) in the NHL over that span.

Is he likely to be one of the very best 5 v 5 producers in the coming years? No, but he is clearly still an effective scorer in a league where goals are at a premium.

Unless he is asking for the world - I highly doubt he is - I have no idea how he hasn't been signed yet.
