Over time RDS has become known as a somewhat different sports entity in Canada a broadcaster with a different angle- francophone content and approach. They fulfill a niche and do it well but they have also at times gone too far or reported something that didn't happen, much like this site. Gotta laugh at yourself if you want any kind of respect.

So what does one make of the latest from RDS and Evander Kane?

What's going on with the Jets ? I hear from a player on Winnipeg that Kane doesn't want to negotiate a new deal ?

The tweet above set of a fury of activity and speculation about the contract status of Kane and his desire to be in Winnipeg and on the Jets. The two concerns as seen by the faithful are that Kane wants out and the team could lose a 30 goal scorer and that a current player may be speaking about some very private matters.

The latter is the more concerning and I think if anyone knew a player that well and was able to get that level of information RDS, in particular Renaud P Lavoie would be breaking far more stories about the Jets than this. Anyone read or see any?

So look at Kane and his apparent/alleged desire to not resign. He has one, and only one option request a trade. He has no leverage, none, zero zilch. Kane has no arbitration rights, he is a RFA and should he sign an offer sheet it will have to be for a ton of money because Winnipeg has the cap space and means to match any offer. Of course he could hold out so perhaps there are two options but what is the likelihood of that? What does that do for Kane other than make the situation a MAD, mutual assured destruction.

In my past blog I wrote cryptically about the situation with Pavelec. This same person in the same conversation had nothing to say about Kane, his contract or discussions- absolutley zero. I trust my contact in all facets and if you look at my track record with the Winnipeg situation it's been pretty good.

So could Kane want out? Sure anything is possible but other than a reporter for RDS there is no word from anyone on this topic. No rumour, do casual comment from any of the TNSE people, absolutely nothing.

There may be teams interested in Kane and why wouldn't there be 30 goal power forwards don't grow on trees, but it's tactics, drive up his value, put some pressure. It's all part of the game, I just didn't know some what irrelevant RDS employees were playing. I don't think the Jets or Kane do either.

Happy Father's day all
