The Nashville Predators have partnered with the World Wildlife Fund for Earth Hour... happening this Saturday… the event begins right after the Preds/Kings game with a performance on the Sommet Center Plaza by Jo Dee Messina that will include the first public debut of her new single, “Shine,” from her upcoming Unmistakable album, and a program that is being emceed by yours truly. At 8:30pm CDT the lights on the Sommet Center tower will be turned off by Mayor Karl Dean and Ms. Messina to start the event in downtown Nashville and then the rest of downtown Nashville will go dark for the hour.

Nashville is one of seven U.S. cities leading the global effort to show support for action on climate change. On Dec. 10, 2008, the World Wildlife Fund announced that Nashville would serve as an official “flagship” city for Earth Hour 2009. Other U.S. flagship cities are Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta and San Francisco.

In Nashville to date, 234 businesses, buildings and landmarks have signed on to turn off their nonessential lights for Earth Hour (this number grows every day). This includes some of Nashville’s most iconic buildings – AT&T Building, L&C Tower, Country Music Hall of Fame, Hard Rock Café, Loveless Café, the Parthenon, Tennessee State Capitol, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, CMT billboard at the West End/Broadway split, pedestrian bridge, and LP Field.

It should be a lot of fun and an important cause… please join me after the Preds/Kings game on Saturday.
