Kyle Turris is in Nashville and will be on the ice with the team today at practice this morning at 11:30am. Practice today will be held at Ford Ice Center.

Turris was almost giddy in his media availability yesterday, you could see him failing miserably at suppressing huge grins as he listed off the players on the team he was friends with or had played with internationally. The biggest smiles were reserved for his recollection of last season’s playoff run and his excitement at the potential to be a part of it and the prospect at playing inside of Peter Laviolette’s system. A system that will fit in perfectly with Turris’ skillset.

I mean, after all, as Zack commented on last night’s SlapShot Radio… if Turris could put in 27 goals in Guy Boucher’s system… let your imagination run wild at the potential in Laviolette’s.

So let’s meet Kyle Turris… The 28 year old right-shooting center is from British Columbia He was the Coyotes third overall pick in the 2007 Entry Draft. He lit up the BCHL in two seasons, posting over a point per game in his first season and 2.28 points per game in his second season. T Viktor Arvidsson got his 6th goal of the season last night, adding in the assist he also got, he now has 9 points on the season. He was the highest player drafted by an NHL team directly from Tier II Junior A. He spent one seson with the Wisconsin Badgers before making his NHL debut in 2008.

Phoenix (they were known as the Phoenix Coyotes then) really wasn’t a very good fit for Turris… he did some bouncing back and forth between the AHL and the big club… given the turmoil that was going on in the desert during his time there, it’s understandable. The Coyotes finally gave up on him in December of 2011, trading him to Ottawa for David Runblad and a second round pick after a tumultuous RFA negotiation that had him hold out the first 19 games of the 2011-12 season.

That trade was one of the best things that could’ve happened for him. Ironically replacing Mike Fisher as a top two centerman. He found his game in Ottawa after a couple of decent seasons, he posted 26 goals and 32 assists in 2013-14, 24 and 40 for 64 points in 2014-15 and last season, 27 goals and 28 assists.

The line combination possibilities positively make you drool… So… one more time, the Nashville Predators grab a center from the Ottawa Senators and we all know how well the last one worked out.

Practice is at Ford Ice Center at 11:30am today.

Random Notes

- Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts column is always a must read, but this week he focuses on the trade and how it came back around top happen… really good read.

- One of the interesting points in Friedman’s column is Alex Burrows comparing Turris to players like himself and Ryan Kesler… Friedman calls players like that “edgy, prideful guys who create(d) the necessary attitude” Interesting take on the new Pred.

- The NHL Global Series gets going tomorrow with a 1pm central faceoff between the Avalanche and Senators from Stockholm.

- Concern is growing in Montreal... this is a better team than they are showing so far.

- KHL Watch – Eeli Tolvanen’s Jokerit club is off until 11/15. Tolvanen has 14 goals on the season, combined with 11 assists he has 25 points in 27 games.
