Final Score: Canucks 5 – Blue Jackets 4

Game Summary

It happened again. The Jackets for the second time in three games found themselves down three goals, and for the second time in three games their opposition let them back in the game. The Jackets found themselves down 4-1 late in the third period. The Jussi Jokinen goal early in the third stung and the Bo Horvat goal was the dagger. Down three with five minutes left the game was all but over. Until it wasn’t.

The Jackets scored three goals in 2:37 to comeback and tie the game. Before we get to that, let’s first marvel at the Jackets first goal an absolute rip from Seth Jones.

Jones had himself a day. He entered this game at 50 points, just a single point back of James Wisniewski for the franchise lead for points by a defencemen. With that goal he tied the record and he was not done there. He broke the record on the Jackets next goal, picking up the secondary assist on this Pierre-Luc Dubois goal.

Now with the record officially his, Jones kept adding to his total. He got the secondary assist on this Zach Werenski goal.

And then the primary assist on this Cam Atkinson goal.

A four point night for Jones, the third Blue Jackets player to have a four point game this season. This was the first four point game of his career, and tied the franchise record for most points in a game by a defencemen. He is one of just 12 defencemen this season to have a four point game. His goal also tied Dougie Hamilton for the league lead among defencemen goal scoring, though Hamilton scored later on in the day to reclaim the lead. Regardless what Jones did tonight was special. This is a special player in the prime of his career doing special things.

Ultimately the Jackets couldn't pull out the win in overtime, but this was still a tremendous effort to pick up a point.
