Yeah . . . 5 points on a 3-game western Canada road trip is pretty good.

Paul - Seth Jones is only 23 yr old - and defensemen usually come into their prime in mid to late 20's, so he's has a lot of years to grow !!
That trade looked good for the Jackets at the time it was made, and better now. Jones has more points than Johansen in about the same number of games.

Also - you didn't mention that Bread man had a 4-point game yesterday too !! Or maybe it's just become expected of him ! I sure hope Jarmo signs him this summer.

The down side of this trip, is that in the playoffs you can't get down 3 goals and come back, like they did twice on the trip. You have to come out ready to play.

Didn't see the game, but at least they got a point out of it with our backup goalie in net. Sadly we needed the 2nd point desperately.

Standings:

PIT: 96 (ROW over everyone)
CBJ: 94 (with tiebreak over PHI)
PHI: 94 (ROW tiebreak over NJD and FLA)
NJD: 93 (1 game in hand on PIT)
FLA: 86 (2 games in hand on everyone that matters)

CBJ:

DET, PIT, @NHS (predict/hope 4 points. Win against Detroit is mandatory, likely they must beat PIT for any chance to be 3rd in the Metro. Loser point hurts badly from Saturday, if they had the extra point it may well have kept them out of the wild card or 2nd wild card).

PHI:

@NYI, CAR, NYR (predict 6 points and 2nd in division, PIT gets them ROW in a tie). Beating COL and BOS out them in the driver's seat for a series with PIT. Tip your hat and move on. Does anyone think any of those three teams they play will beat them? At this point could an all-star team of those three teams beat them?).

PIT:

@CBJ, OTT (Predict 2 points, which is a hope and prayer). If they get two points they could be 2nd, 3rd, or a wild card. If they get 4 points they are 2nd in the division). Does it really matter at this point for them? They could win or lose in round one to any team they play, no matter who has home ice. The only worry they have is if they 0-2 to finish and likely get Washington as a wild card, or in a worst-case scenario all three teams below them win out at they get BOS or TBL in the first round..

NJ:

NYR, TOR, @WSH (predict 4 points, could easily be 2). The NYR game is an easy win, the last two are dependent on what teams show up. IMO likely the second wild card, but the way they have played the last month+ they could easily move up to 3rd in the division if they win out. Congrats to them no matter where they finish.)

FLA:

CAR, NSH, BOS, BUF, @BOS (Predict 4 points, could be 6 since almost everything is at home). The FLA blogger has it right, they have to win at least 4 games (likely 5) out and have CBJ or NJ blow up to get in. Neither is happening, they have two back-to-backs with NSH and BOS in the second game of the two back-to-backs. Those two teams are playing for playoff positions and won't give anything away. Good luck to 'em, they have a shot and miracles can happen.

Max OUT points (if they win every remaining game, but not every team can do it)

PIT: 100
CBJ: 100 (if they tie, CBJ has tiebreak over PHI)
PHI: 100
NJD: 99
FLA: 96

Current guess finish:

PHI: 100 (2nd in division, loser points win out instead of keep them out)
PIT: 98 (3rd in division, does it matter if they are 2nd, 3rd, or 1st WC?)
CBJ: 98 (1st wild card has a shot against WAS, if they just had some offense in DEC and JAN)
NJD: 97 (2nd wild card, has a chances against either BOS or TBL)
FLA: 90 (Out, but anything is still slightly possible at this point)

Keep winning CBJ, 3-0 1 game at a time.
