TSN’s Bob McKenzie on his Insider Trading segment Thursday with updates on some trade possibilities.

The Anaheim Ducks are a target of teams looking for defensive help, with young veterans Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm under contract through next year or longer, but because they have a stockpile of blueline prospects including Brandon Montour, Josh Manson. Shea Theodore and first-round Jacob Larsson.

GM Bob Murray may be open to moving one of those prospects to improve their status as a contender in the Western Conference.

THE BUZZ – The Ducks are in first in the Pacific after a slow start and need scoring depth to take some of the burden off of Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler.

There is no shortage of teams that would offer a forward to Anaheim for a Montour, Theodore or Larsson, who may be ready to play full time in the NHL right now and Murray will have the opportunity to pick and choose which would be the best fit for the Ducks potential Cup run.

Arizona Coyotes winger Radim Vrbata was thought to be an attractive rental target for contending teams due to his $1 Million salary, but McKenzie indicates that Vrbata’s one-year-deal has bonuses of $250,000 for each round the team he plays for advances in the playoffs, which may scare teams with tight cap situations.

THE BUZZ – This is rather short-sighted on the part of rookie GM John Chayka. The cap hit for bonuses incurred will count towards next season’s salary cap. Teams such as Chicago or Boston have been crippled by those bonuses and have had to make deals they did not want to make because of them.

Vrbata could still be moved by the Coyotes, but they will not get as much of a return as expected.
