Some quick hits and then I'll weigh in on the larger picture with the Hawks and what I think is going on.
First, Bryan Bickell.
Although Bickell really does want to stay in Chicago, it appears there is some question in his camp as to what his market value is and therefore what constitutes an actual "hometown discount." Thus, Bickell may well hit the market at the opening of UFA.
Second, Dave Bolland.
There is still lots of interest out there from teams in both conferences. Edmonton appears to be the frontrunner.
Other trades:
The Ottawa Senators have expressed interest in either Niklas Hjalmarsson or Nick Leddy.
The hot rumor with Leddy, and the Hawks in general, is a rumored trade up for the #5 overall draft pick with Carolina. Leddy's name has been linked to this deal. In general, the Hawks have been trying to trade up with many teams. The Carolina rumor gained some steam last night with a late message to me that there may well be something brewing here.
The Canadiens have also expressed interest in Leddy.
Two Eastern Conference teams have inquired about Michal Frolik.
Many teams have asked about Andrew Shaw, but the Hawks are simply not interested at all in even discussing it.
The Hawks are asking for draft picks or prospects and obviously therefore hoping to clear cap space. This is likely in order to either sign Bickell or add another player to replace him.
