Senators finally get a win, Neil Retires, ownership rumors, under the bus

At long last, the Senators finally put a solid effort together and got a much needed win over the New York Rangers on their return to home ice following a disastrous road trip.

Cody Ceci, Bobby Ryan and Zack Smith scored for Ottawa and Craig Anderson made 27 saves for the 3-2 win, which capped a whirlwind day off the ice.

It was far from perfect, but at this point two points is two points and as they head to the spectacle that is the outdoor game, two points is huge for this team that was in a downward sprial.

First, the GM took to the podium to give Guy Boucher a vote of confidence, saying the coach would not be fired and the onus is on the players to step it up or roster changes would be made.

Dorion also asserted that he is responsible for hockey decisions, not Eugene Melnyk. This came in response to comments from Kyle Turris, who told reporters that he felt the GM wanted to re-sign him but the owner didn't' and he found himself in Nashville.

That story was capped off by a simple "lol" from Turris' wife Julie to a tweet from Ian Mendes reporting Dorion's comments.

There are also rumours swirling that a deal to sell at least part of the team may be done, and announced as early as this weekend, although it was denied by Melnyk. Apparently the pressure is on the current owner to take a step back in whole or in part, but if we know anything about the owner it won't be easy and the denial might be smokescreen. The rumours might not be correct, but were loud enough for Melnyk to feel the need to issue the denial, and where there is smoke there is often fire.

And finally, Chris Neil held a press conference today to announce that he is retiring from the NHL after a 17 year career and over 1000 hard played games in a Senators uniform.

Neil will play in the Senators' alumni game on Friday night on Parliament Hill.
