Game Day: Ottawa @ LA - An opportunity to wash off the stink

So, on the sliding scale of performances, the Senators upped their game from the debacle in Winnipeg, but it still wasn't even close enough to beating a tired and injury depleted Anaheim Ducks squad.

Newly acquired Adam Henrique had the game's first and last goals, his second coming into the empty net, and the Ducks rolled to a 3-0 win on Ryan Miller's 26 save shutout.

Ottawa held the Ducks to 22 shots on goal, but the Senators couldn't find any run support for Craig Anderson, as they were shut out for the second straight game.

Erik Karlsson showed signs of getting out of his funk, but his career long points drought has reached double digits, and he is not alone in the doldrums. Obviously everyone is on at least a 2 game pointless skid, and they aren't generating many chances let alone goals, whether it be 5 on 5 or on the power play.

And it won't get any easier tonight on the second half of a back to back, facing the Kings at Staples Center. LA is pulling away in the lead of the Pacific Division, and are riding a 6 game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 22-8 in the process.

The Kings beat the Senators 3-2 in a shootout earlier this season, but that was B.S. - Before Sweden - and the Senators aren't the same team they were in October. That being a team that was in games even if they lost, and they were good at scratching out points even if they didn't have their "A" game. Right now, I think Sens fans would settle for the "B" game because in the last 10 games even that hasn't been present, its has been a stretch filled with Cs, Ds and Fs. And I am sure a lot of F's coming from the mouths of fans, team and organization alike.

I closed off yesterday's post by stating that I hoped the Senators made staying up late worthwhile, and I am not sure they did that. Its another late game tonight, and one that they are going to have to come out with better effort and execution, combined with a little luck and the Kings maybe taking them lightly if they are going to exit this one with a point or two.
