Jhonas Enroth made 28 saves on the 29 shots that he faced as Sweden defeated Belarus, 2-1 at the IIHF World Championships.

Enroth improved his record to 2-0 in the tourney. He has only allowed 2 goals on 39 shots that he's faced. His 1.00 GAA and .949 save % are pretty damn good, eh?

Thanks, IIHF

Coffee is for closers, right Jhonas?

Before he left Buffalo to play for his native Sweden, Enroth was clear about his desire to be a #1 goaltender in the NHL. With Ryan Miller's future in Buffalo up in the air at this time, Sabres management must be pleased with Enroth's progress and his maturity at the Worlds. Perhaps this will be the final litmus test to determine if Enroth can carry a heavier, starting role for Buffalo in the 2013-14 season.

Thanks, sabres.com

Sweden will grapple with undefeated Norway on Wednesday as they attempt to take over the #1 seed in their group.

Its been nine days since the Sabres cleaned out their lockers and headed home for the long spring/summer layoff.

Last week, Sabres GM Darcy Regier told Kevin Sylvester on Sabres Hockey Hotline (WGR) that he was planning to meet with Sabres interim head coach Ron Rolston to do a full debrief of the 2013 Sabres season. This much is true:

Regier met with Rolston and began the review process of the team and Rolston's staff.

Regier was in Rochester for the Amerk's locker clean out session on Friday and he was asked to comment on several topics, including:

1). The future of Amerks free agents David Leggio, Nick Tarnasky, and Mark Mancari.
2). The Amerks goaltending situation moving forward, including Hackett and Makarov.
3). Who will head coach the Sabres? Who will head coach the Amerks?

Listen closely to Regier's comment on the coaching decisions.

"Fairly soon" he will be unveiling the plan for both of the squads that he presides over..

Regier met with Rolston on Wednesday. Afterwards, he said that he would be focusing on debriefing this past season with Rolston, and his coaching staff. Frankly, Regier doesn't sound like a GM who is actively recruiting a new head coach who can guide his team through the extreme makeover. It sounds to me like Rolston will be named the permanent head coach of the Sabres. Personally, I want to see Regier shake things up and to reach for another candidate. Rolston is a good teacher, however, to me, he lacks the necessary passion level and motivational qualities necessary to to get professionals up for games and to help them to manage their lows. In short, he's not Lindy Ruff. No one is. I want a head coach who is going to hold the players accountable. i want a guy who the players can and will respect and who they can learn from. I want a guy who can win games and to instill in his players that its not okay to lose to Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, et al. In the brief time that I encountered Rolston this seasin, I can say that i was impressed by his practice preparation. He's a teacher of fundamentals and his practices, however few of them there were well scripted and articulate. In my opinion, Rolston's line combinations and playing time distribution left me wanting more. His in-game coaching decisions for the most part were correct, however, there were times when I wished he'd take a timeout to calm his squad down, or in some instances, I wanted RR to push the pace in games rather than retreating into trap mode. I also wanted RR to pump up the ice time for Vanek this season.

Thats just me.

Will Rolston be named the permanent head coach in Buffalo today or tomorrow, as some are speculating?

If so, will Cassidy return to Rochester?

How do you feel about Rolston? Do you wish to give him a chance to coach the team under less stressful circumstances?

Would you rather that Regier hire Patrick Roy, Randy Cunneyworth, Guy Boucher, Scott Arniel, Mike Foligno or another man to be the Sabres next head coach? With the Canucks and Rangers nearing elimination, will Alain Vigneault and John Tortarella be asked to walk the proverbial the plank? Why not sit tight and wait and see what happens in round one of the playoffs?

I reached out to the Quebec Remparts today, and I asked if the Sabres have asked for permission to speak with Remps head coach/GM Patrick Roy about Buffalo's vacant head coaching position.

Is it a fait accompli that Rolston will be given the Buffalo bench boss job?

I was told, via email, by a team spokeswoman:

"As of today, nobody contacted him".

Roy is sitting in Quebec City, phone silent.

Why not ring him up, Darcy?

Finally, there's encouraging news regarding the health of Jason Pominville.

Mike Russo if the Star tribune reports that Pommer skated at the Wild's optional skate on Monday morning.

The Wild trail the Blackhawks 2 games to 1 right now, with game 4 on Minnesota's barn on Tuesday night.

Pominville skated, however, didn't speak to the media afterwards. Its understandable. Just let him get the feel of being back on the ice again without the pressure of the media in his face asking him how he's feeling. The answer is: he feels like crap. Thats why concussions are so debilitating and hard to predict. They are like snowflakes in that no two are the same.

Wild bench boss Mike Yeo was was non committal when he was asked if Pommer will skate Tuesday night.

Yeo was hopeful that Pominville could return before Game 1 in Chicago, however, the former Sabres captain felt like crap the morning after a rigorous .skate

Pommer hasn't played since April 23 when he was cranked in the face by a deliberate Dustin Brown elbow. He hasn't played a game since. Who even knows where Pommer's fitness levels are at right now.

Said Yeo:

“Today was encouraging,” Yeo said. “I’m not saying that he’s a possibility for tomorrow. I’m not saying that he isn’t. For me, I’m just glad he was on the ice today and we’ll just see what the plan is going forward.”
