It is really heating up out there! (And I am not referring to the fall-like temps!)
The Vegas Knights are going to have their pick of some potentially solid players here and unless the Habs make some sly trades, and fast, we are looking at some strong possibilities for McPhee.
There is no question the NHL is diong the Knights a solid by not having two expansion teams entering as has been the custom. This gives Vegas total control over this game and I have a feeling we are going to see the Knights being a much better team than most early expansion squads...
Per my sources, here are players most at risk in Montreal...
Paul Byron...
This is the name that comes up the most. He is coming off of a very strong year and is affordable...
Charles Hudon...
Hudon is gaining a lot of attention over the past few days as a name that could be moved prior to the draft.. The Habs don't want to lose him for nothing and his potential is very high...see below for a trade scenario I heard..
Brandon Davidson...
Big and strong and he just looks like the part of a George McPhee defenseman...He came from Edmonton at the deadline...
Rumored Trade Scenario...
The Canadiens offer up Emelin in a trade (for futures) if the Knights take Davidson and leave Byron and Hudon alone... Remember this is McPhee and there is no doubt he will be interested in an experienced D-man. I know when people look at how these teams are selected they think that every team will lose their youngest and cheapest player with the most potential. McPhee doesn't build teams that way. He will take a few vets or, like in this scenario, he will trade for a few vets he likes and will promise to not touch certain players (probably players a team is more emotionally tied to and doesn't want to lose, more than a player McPhee actually wants..)
