TRADE FREEZE QUESTION: Will Team Canada 2014 BE BETTER THAN 2010?

So I was debating with some folks the other day about the Canadian Olympic team, and how I believe the future Canadian and American Olympic teams (assuming the NHLers still go, and I do think they will at least go to Russia) might be even better than these star-studded 2010 squads. What do you think?

So let's compare the Rosters...

The 2010 Team Canada Roster.

Forwards:
Crosby/Nash/Iginla
Marleau/Thornton/Heatley
Toews/Getzlaf/Perry
Richards/Morrow/Eric Staal
Extra:Bergeron

Defense:
Niedermayer/Pronger
Weber/Doughty
Boyle/Keith
Extra: Seabrook

Goal:
Brodeur/Luongo/Fleury

My 2014 Team Canada Roster

Forwards:
Tavares/Crosby/Nash
Eric Staal/Getzlaf/Stamkos
Toews/Hall/Heatley
Jordan Staal/Richards/Duchene
Extra:Carter

Defense:
Weber/Doughty
Boyle/Keith
Myers/Schenn
xtra:Seabrook

Goalie:
Luongo/Fleury/Mason

Comparing...

Offense:

Line 1: I took Iginla off and replaced him with Tavares since Iginla will be 36. I don't yet feel that we have found the perfect linemate for Crosby, and I really see Tavares' game fitting perfectly. At some point I think Crosby/Tavares could be the Trottier/Bossy of the new Team Canada. I really want to see them play together. Advantage: EVEN

Line 2: I took Marleau off this team and replaced him with Stamkos. I also moved Getzlaf and Eric Staal up to the second line, since I believe Getzlaf will clearly be the second best center on this team: Advantage: 2014

Line 3: I took Thornton off Team Canada and replaced him with Taylor Hall. I moved Heatley down to this line and kept Toews here. I am a huge Taylor Hall fan and feel he will be ready even though he will only have three years in the NHL: Advantage 2014

Line 4. I replaced Perry with Matt Duchene and Morrow with Jordan Staal. I kept Richards as the fourth line center. Imagine a penalty kill of Jordan Staal and Mike Richards: Advantage 2014

ExtraPlayer: I replaced Bergeron with Jeff Carter. EVEN

Defense 1: Since Niedermayer and Pronger will likely be out I moved up Weber and Doughty. Weber and Doughty will perhaps be a little too young, while you can argue Niedermayer and Pronger may be a little on the old side, but go with the experience: Advantage 2010

Defense 2: Again I moved Boyle and Keith Up, and they should be every bit as strong as Weber and Doughty are currently: Even

Defense 3. I replaced Niedermayer and Pronger with Myers and Schenn on the third line. These guys will be young, but eventually there is no limit to how soild each will be: Advantage 2010

Goalie:

Starter: I will take Brodeur 2010 over Luongo 2014
Backup:I will take Fleury 2014 over Luongo 2010
Reserve: I will take Fleury 2010 over Steve Mason 2014

Comparing 2010 and 2014

Looking forward, the 2014 team up front will be more explosive and arguably one of the best teams Canada has ever iced with four number-one-overall-pick-superstars in Crosby,Tavares, Stamkos, and Hall. The new wave will arrive in 2014 for Team Canada. Young, but deadly.

The Defense will also be young in 2014, maybe too young. But these 6 defenders could possibly play in 2018 and 2022 as well. There is no doubt that the best defense in the world is coming up in Canada.

In goal it will remain to be seen if Brodeur can be fully replaced by Luongo or Fleury. Fleury is believed to be the young star Canadian goalie, but he has yet to really grab that title by the Horns.

In the end, if these two teams could play each other I would give the edge to 2014, but only if they got solid goaltending...

And the good news for Canada is they are so young it is possible 8 years from now they could arguably be the best team ever to play in the Olympics.

Who do you think is better Team Canada 2010 or 2014?
