Carolina GM Jim Rutherford has locked up pending UFA Alexander Semin for 5 years, $35 Million($7 Million per season), further reducing the pool of free agents for the summer.

*******

The dominoes are beginning to fall, as the Penguins make their second significant acquisition in as many days, obtaining defenseman Douglas Murray from San Jose for two second round draft picks.

How will the other contenders in the East respond to this and the trade for Brenden Morrow?

ALSO: San Jose may not be done today. Boyle could be moved as well. Sharks looking at Campbell, Visnovsky, etc...

I have updated The Rumor Chart on Iginla, Byfuglien, Campbell, Nabokov, Ribeiro, Talbot, Antropov, Regehr, Yandle, Roy, Fillpula, Ryan Witney, Bouwmeester and Jordan Leopold...

No offence to any of the other 28 NHL teams but could there be a more excting NHL Stanley Cup Stanley Cup Final than the Blackhawks vs. Penguins? There is so much that can happen between now and then, but I just feel like there is an air of inevitability about this....

Are the Pens and Hawks on a collision course and are they now gearing up to take on the other?

Brenden Morrow was on both team's wish list...The Penguins got him. Next up....Jarome Iginla.

* On Iginla...

I have been told it has now been decided...Iginla will be on the market. Will he be traded? Still to be seen, but I also hear the Flames want to move him to the East...The Hawks and Kings are making big pushes to counter that want, but Boston and Pittsburgh I believe still have the edge?

Also updated on the Chart today....

Brian Campbell: The New Jersey Devils are the new possibility here....SJ and Detroit still possible...Florida has to take some money back

Nabokov: While many think the Lightning are out of it they have popped up today as having some interest in Nabokov...

Mike Ribeiro: The negotiations are pretty intense to keep Ribeiro in Washington, but the would be free agent wants a long term deal.

Big Rumor Update??
This kind of trade, if it happens, will have to happen quickly and everyone is very much keeping it under the radar at this point.
