Quick hit here, with another update after the 3 o'clock hour...
Sad news, but expected news.... Marc Savard has shut it down for the season. Really hoping the guy gets better...sucks, but time is the only medicine for concussions.
Savard officially shutting down means the Bruins will leap up to the front ot the rumor mill along with the Penguins (who have lost Malkin). Two teams with such large expectations must try to fill these holes.
On RJ to Pitt...
The Penguins have always like RJ Umberger. That is a widely known fact. They tried to get him from Philly, when the Flyers dealt him to Columbus, but the Flyers weren't moving him in Conference, and certainly not the division.
I am an Umberger fan and especially love the fact the guy scores in the playoffs.
Now however, the Blue Jackets, a team who really does need to make a significant move and everyone assumes NEEDS to make the playoffs, may move RJ the team's truest locker room leader?
Huh? By which I mean...WHY???
I have talked to the two sources who tipped me off on this today and neither had a great answer, but one said, "there is another player the Jackets are looking at acquiring who is indirectly connected to moving RJ."
So as is the case with many hard to figure rumors...there are other factors which force us to throw logic somewhat out the window...and make me dig like crazy for those "other factors."
On the Habs looking for D in Vancouver...
Something may be back on again today...I am hearing what sounds like intense discussions between the squads...If I don't have more of an update by the 3 pm hour I will by 6 or so.
