Quick morning Kovalchuk update...

More and more people saying Kovalchuk is close to signing in Russia...

I would wait to worry... could be negotiation, but as I have said since I was told on Saturday, there are many out there who feel he has decided to go.

One source, "The pressure on Ilya to save the KHL is more intense than you can imagine."

All I can say, is the people I talk to who know him the best say he almost scoffed at the idea of going to Russia last year (even as late as three months ago) when asked. He is a true player, and players want to compete in the best league in the world and win there.

More as the day goes..

On Kaberle....

Sources tell me a Kaberle deal could be done shortly after the Kovalchuk signing, sending the Kaberle to LA for Wayne Simmonds and a prospect...

Another source added, "I wouldn't be shocked at all to see the Leafs going after Brett Lebda to replace him. It could be the perfect fit."

more to come...
