Red Wings and Flyers Thinking Big

Quick hits.

On Detroit...

The Wings will be very interesting this summer...and that is a first for the Holland era since the salary cap. This is a team that has used the formula to perfection and managed to stay competitive...somehow, throughout.

With the departure of Rafalski, and the gaining if rare cap space come rumors the Red Wings are looking to clear about a million more.

I am told that it is more likely Rafalski's extra space is taken up by two players than 1. And likely two defenders. The Red Wings aren't likely to go after a big name unless that name is All Star quality. They won't spend money on a defensive minded d-man. And they won't offer sheet Weber.

On Philadelphia...

The Flyers love Bryzgalov, and I am hearing more and more that Ilya likes Philly as well...There is a huge attitude running through the team that reminds me of the atmosphere pre Briere/Timonen. It is not a matter of "if" the Flyers are going for Bryzgalov...it's a matter of what deals they will need to make to make it happen.

A major core forward will be sacrificed for an All-Star goalie, and on a team with this kind of depth it only makes sense.

More to come...
