*The Islanders and Predators are discussing a "mid level" player swap. The Isles are looking for a defenseman with a bit more experience, the Preds looking for a forward...more specifically "a top nine guy who will develop into a top six."

*The interest surrounding Dan Cleary is definitely escalating and with good reason. Besides interest from Philly, I have heard Buffalo, Florida, Phoenix and Dallas.

*The Rangers are sill VERY much looking to make a "change of culture" move but are willing to continue to be patient.

*The Oilers are looking at adding a D-man and the Flyers and Leafs are looking at subtracting a D-man. Look for Coburn's name to surface again, although I believe the Oilers will look more to Toronto because the Flyers asking price for Coburn is a bit higher than Edmonton is willing to go.

*Kiprusoff has officially retired per sportsnet.... and yes, I thought this already happened as well...

*A very interesting tidbit today from a single source...so take this with "half" a grain of salt, but according to this western Canadian source there is some talk that the Flames would love to figure out a way to bring back Dion Phaneuf. Of course, the logical among us would say the Flames defense is already packed with high priced veteran D-men, but my source said the move could come later in the year "after some of the other excess baggage has been dealt with."

NOTE: I also can't help but think this is the kind of rumor that surfaces right before an extension between the Leafs and Phaneuf is finally "worked out."
