Been a very busy day as I continue to work on a few MAJOR stories, as I look into Ice Edge/Phoenix/Winnipeg and a Major Canadiens trade (rumored last year) which may now be coming to fruition.

But here is the latest on Kovalchuk.

More and more I am hearing the Kovalchuk situation is nearing resolution and will not get to the arbitrator. One NHL source went so far to call the Kovalchuk situation "A Non-story at this point."

That being said, the pressure has been increased today as KHL President Medvedev has been quoted in a Russian Paper stating SKA is prepared to offer Kovalchuk their own 17 year contract.

As I have said before, I have been told from VERY strong sources that Kovalchuk and his wife want nothing to do with living in Russia. However, perhaps all that could change. And if you are going to play in Russia, SKA is the team to play for I am told.

On Kaberle...

I am told the Bruins are once again in this big time today and a deal for Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart could be a starting point. Watching this very closely

The Kovalchuk Excuse...

Finally, in my next blog I will be talking about some of the other un-signed players out there and how GMs continue to use the "Kovalchuk Excuse" as a reason to not be able to talk contracts. While I do think this is legit in the case of Kaberle (and perhaps Stempniak) it is being used way too often elsewhere. It was true maybe the first two weeks of July, but now more..

More to come...tonight could be interesting...
