On the Hawks, Canucks and Niedermayer...
You will soon hear the Hawks are in Vancouver trying to convince Scotty to come to Chicago. Of course the Canucks are also highly interested in the BC native. Oh, and by the way, the Ducks are good again...That being said, the opportunity is so large here to get a few key pieces by moving Nieds.
On the Senators...
If there is one team to look for to make a major splash it it Ottawa. Their main focal points are Eric Staal, Scott Niedermayer, Alexandre Frolov, and Peter Mueller. The Sens ownership has been pushing the hardest to have them bring in a star player for basically three seasons now. There isn't a ton to offer if you are Ottawa, but the Sens are most definitely looking.
On the NY Rangers...
There is no question the Rangers are up to something. They were extremely active on Friday. Dubinsky is the main chip, but I have also heard Gilroy's name and also Girardi. The Rangers main target, like the Canadiens is Cogliano.
On the LA Kings and Kariya...
The Kings are looking for help and still could get in on Whitney. The Kings have "mild interest" in Paul Kariya if the numbers could somehow match up. The rumors of the Penguins grabbing Kariya seem even more far-fetched, but Kariya's name will be out there. The Preds aren't likely in on Kariya. The Kings are also considering talking to Mike Modano...The Kings LOVE Hartnell as well and it is possible that Jack Johnson could be part of a deal.
On Keith Tkachuk...
I am hearing it is own to Boston or Pittsburgh. The Penguins had great success in the Bill Guerin experiment, and Tkachuk could be the perfect winger for Malkin...The Pens are out of the Whitney sweeps because of the #1 pick and Whitney's desire to be extended. The Pens are looking for a rental only...and it is down to Tkachuk or Ponikarovski.
On the Flyers...
They will get a goalie. Almost 100% they will. Vokoun is the guy they love the most, but he has already said he will be picky with his no-trade, and his salary of course is crazy. The Panthers may take a big contract back, but those players would have to waive to go and are pretty much limited to Briere (who I don't see waiving) and Hartnell (who might). The Flyers other options are Biron, Ellis, and Corey Schneider. Turco is not an option.
On Calgary...
The Flames are also shooting for the stars. I have heard they had talks with the NY Rangers. The Question remains: Was that original Jokinen deal bigger? The Flames have a history of dealing with Phoenix, and Mueller is a nice fit.
On Minnesota....
The Wild were trying to get Patrick Sharp into the deal they made with Chicago. Remember that...Also heard the Wild could make a pitch for Modano as a rental. They will be joined by Boston and LA.
