Capitals and Souray (The Return) Kovy 48 hours, Kariya and Sabres? |

Yup...
Here is a quick hit that baffles the mind.
Even my source had a hard time relaying it, but it came from a great source familiar with the Caps, and it's what we do here...
Last year there was rumor circulating that made more sense to me. Not a ton more, but more. It involved the Caps moving Jose Theodore's cap hit for Sheldon Souray's cap hit.
Now today... this:
"There is a scenario that would find Souray in Washington," my source told me. "Of course there is something else, something major that would have to occur, for this to happen. I have heard a team in California would have to get involved as well... but whatever that part is, it is still under the radar as of now."
This is a good time to bring up a point to those of you newbies to hockeybuzz (and a few who may have missed this point somehow).
A few rules I have on rumor reporting.
#1. No filters. source is good, I tell you. without my opinion to get in the way.
#2. I don't report players are being shopped. (much better to say another team is "interested" in a player" than to say that player's current team is shopping him..this is a big key to my having a great relationship with the players, GMs, etc.)
#3. Not every rumor is complete...in fact most are only a piece of the puzzle. It's rare (if ever) that I am given the entire scenario...and all the players involved, so you can always assume there is more to it. However, the players I am told are likely the key pieces teams want....
Anyway..this is obviously the case with Souray and Washington. I have heard Souray and San Jose mentioned, and Souray and Anaheim as well. There is something else here. Something far more interesting. Something I will continue to follow.
Kovalchuk Update...
A source informed me today, "This could get weirder still in the next 48 hours."
"hooray?!?:I"
I honestly don't know how it could. I can tell you this: Something has to happen this weekend for NJ or they are in real danger of losing Kovalchuk to another bidder.
Kariya and Buffalo?
A source told me this morning the Sabres and Penguins are leading the pack for Kariya. Now there have been quite a few players over the years who have been rumored to the abres that never happened. This is one that I hope does. I would love to see Paul Kariya in the Sabres blue and gold, playing that uptempo system. I think he woud be ideal.
